Foxloft Conservancy is so excited to introduce our new Education Director, Sidney Campbell!
Sidney will be joining our team temporarily to help us during an exciting period of growth and expansion, of our education team and our organization as a whole. Sidney has worked managing birds of prey (and the people that care for them) for over a decade, and brings with her a passion for team building and collaboration. She has lot of interest in the development of small facilities like ours, so we're very excited to learn from each other and to bring Foxloft Conservancy to the next level!
To help welcome her to our team and introduce her to you, we asked Sidney a few questions:
What led you to pursue a career working with birds?
My uncle trained elephants at the San Diego Zoo when I was growing up and I completely idolized him, both because of his job and because of what an amazing person he is. I knew I wanted to be a zookeeper like him but fell in love with raptors in college when I interned at a raptor center.
What drew you to the Foxloft?
Everything about Foxloft inspires me. The vision is ambitious and, knowing Fox these last few years, I know that it is also achievable. I am excited to be somewhere that shares my values when it comes to workplace culture and that I know my work will be impactful, valued, and lasting.
What are you most excited to work on in the next year?
I am most excited to help this incredible ambassador team reach its potential! There is a ton of skill in the humans and birds who work here, and I love creating systems that help everyone be successful and enjoy their jobs to the fullest. I’m looking forward to establishing strong, consistent foundations that allow us to train bigger and better.
What is your favorite bird species?
I love merlins. The first raptor I ever worked with was a merlin named Max. I love falcons in general but merlins are so colorful and exciting to watch. I’ve seen many on my road trip out and since I arrived here which feels like a lovely welcome.
Who is your favorite Foxloft ambassador?
There have been a small few very special birds in my life, but I don’t often have favorites. Instead I tend to have a crush on whoever is doing the most exciting learning at any given time, so at the moment I am most thrilled with the black vultures Siri and Stomp.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to be outside and exploring, so lately I’ve been doing a lot of road tripping and car camping with my dog. When we’re home, I do a lot of reading (for the last year+ I have been deeply entrenched in Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere) and cooking.

Dolly is a treasure and that is legitimately good advice that changed my life.
