Transports are always bitter sweet. As a rescue you work so hard to save these special kitties and saying good bye sucks!

Several of our kitties from the Alice hoarding case made transport this round. We are so thankful that they are finally healthy enough to find their forever homes! Their transformations are amazing!

This weekend we also said goodbye to sweet Potato who fought so hard to survive and defeated all the odds against her! She is now off to find her forever family! I will miss her demanding wet food all day long and snuggling up with me at night.

We are currently in New York on our way to Vermont. That’s the last stop for this trip. We are definitely tired and ready to sleep in a real bed! Only 6 more hours to go!

Thank you to everyone who donated to our gas fund! We couldn’t do it without you! If you would also like to donate to help us cover the cost of gas, we would really appreciate it! We have already traveled 3,200 miles and still have to make it back to Texas

Together we made a difference in the lives of 35 cats! ♥️🐾

Tomorrow we leave on a big journey to transport 35 kitties out of South TX! 18 going on this trip are adults with 4 of them being special needs. That’s amazing when right now everyone is in kitten season! We will be stopping in 5 states with our last stop being in northern Vermont.

It’s going to be a long trip for us drivers, but the kitties will be hanging out in their hammocks. We make sure they have food and water at all times and they also travel with a litter box. The adults get their own cage so that the only thing crowded on the trip is us drivers! 🤣

After being so sick for 6 weeks, I’m a little nervous about this trip, but being able to help our rescue partners in South Texas makes it all worth it!

We are so thankful to our rescue partners up north that have said yes to these amazing kitties!

Want to help us get these kitties out of Texas? We could really use help with gas money! The van rental has cost us $1500 plus the extra mileage that we will use over 2000 miles. Gas is so expensive right now and we are going to use a lot!

Keep a look out for fun transport pictures coming soon! Together we can make a difference!

I haven’t been ready to talk about this publicly yet, and really I don’t know if I am ready to now but I wanted to share this sweet portrait of Smudge that my daughters got me for Mother’s Day.

When Smudge was a week old, his entire family was killed by roaming dogs. He sustained frontal lobe damage, in the attack, which led to seizures. All the obstacles that were thrown his way he survived. He was such a fighter.

After almost 5 years of medications 3 times a day, his kidneys started failing him and on March 9th my Smudgey peacefully passed away.

Smudge is the sole reason TCC even exists and he was my special buddy and side kick for so long. He has traveled across the country to transport cats and he’s seen so many fosters come and go. My world has revolved around him for so long that now I just feel lost.

I cried so hard seeing this portrait of him but I am so thankful to have it. It now hangs above where his playpen was and every time I look over there, I see his sweet face again. His portrait is perfect! The little bells around his neck always alerted us if he was having a seizure, and they even added specks of food in his whiskers because if you knew Smudge you know he was always messy!

For 4 years, 10 months and 20 days Smudge was a part of my life. Now he’s gone and my heart hurts.

RIP my sweet boy. I miss you so much, but I know you are now seizure free and running and jumping all the way across the rainbow bridge. I miss you chasing my feet when I walked to loud and growling at me whether you were mad or not. I will never forget you!

Chad did great at the specialist yesterday. He had a small procedure to clean up the area a little more and prep it for a graft. He also had a chest X-ray done to determine how far the puncture holes went into his chest. They were concerned that it could have traveled past the sternum and into the chest cavity, but good news is that it did not. Chad will need a bandage change on Tuesday and then his neck should be ready for a graft by Tuesday of next week. The problem is this process is very expensive. Yesterday’s visit cost us $3000 and the graft surgery is estimated to be another 4-6k. We are talking to the specialist and our local vet to see what other options we may have.

Chad has not picking up a following that little Potato did, so we are just not sure that we will be able to raise the funds to do the skin graft, so we are talking to the specialist and our local vet to see what other options we may have.

We have some funds available in our account but we are also planning a large transport mid June to Kansas and then on to Vermont that we will also need funds for.

There’s a lot going on behind the scenes to do right for all the animals in our care. If you would like to support Chad and our mission, please consider donating or sharing this post. Together we can make a difference!

We picked Chad up from South Texas Veterinary Urgent Care on Saturday. He spent 9 days in the hospital while they tended to his neck wound. He is such a sweet boy and quickly became a favorite with the staff. They took such great care of him.

This morning Taylor loaded up and took him to Sugarland Veterinary Specialist for a skin graft consult. His wound is still very much open and not healing all that great. Hopefully we can get a plan in place to help him continue on this healing journey. His consult at SLVS is a little over $200, and we are not sure what today’s bill will be.

We also settled up with our account with STVUC for the rest of Potato’s care, Chad’s care and a kitty named Peaches that sadly had to be euthanized. We will tell you her story in the coming days.

Needless to say we have spent several thousand dollars in the last few weeks and could really use some donations to help us continue to care for the critical kitties in South Texas. If you would like to donate to help us, I will post our donation information below. Together we can make a difference!

Dr. Andre has decided that Chad may need a skin graft to help his neck wound heal. She referred him over to Sugarland Veterinary Specialist and he has an appointment set for Monday.

We were hoping that scar tissue would be able to grow over and protect the opening that couldn’t be sutured closed, but now it seems the wound is too large for that to be successful. We will get a plan in place with the specialist and keep you all updated.

Thankfully Taylor will be making the trip to Sugarland with Chad and I will consult with the vet over the phone. I’m just not ready to travel yet, but I don’t want to slow down Chad’s healing chances either.

The consult is $205 dollars. If you would like to help cover the cost, I will post our donation information below.

Chad deserves the chance to heal and live a great life and we are going to do everything in our power to make that happen.

I will post a picture in the comments of his healing progress for anyone that would like to see it.

Dr. Andre sent us an update on Chad. This is the poor boy recovering from a horrible neck wound. He is still in the hospital and probably will be for several more days because he is receiving bandage changes and wound care daily.

I can’t show you the updated healing photo because I got a community guidelines violation for my last post🙄, but the healing process is very slow. There is not enough skin left to stitch up the entire wound so it is still very much open in the middle.

Chad has been such a good boy during his hospital stay. We are thankful to Dr. Andre and her entire staff for taking such great care of him! Enjoy the video they sent to us of him gobbling down his treats!

If you would like to donate to Chad’s care I will post our donation information below. You can also call the clinic and donate directly under our Texas Cat Coalition account. Their number is (361) 833-6022. They are open weekdays 11:00AM - 8:00PM.

So sorry, my daughter brought to my attention that I forgot the caption for these pictures. 🤦🏼‍♀️ to my defense I have been in the hospital all week 🤣. Today Melissa with FERALS got a plea for an injured kitty by Delmar College. When she sent me the picture I knew we needed to help. She was able to go over there and trap him and take him straight to Dr Andre at South Texas Veterinary Urgent Care. She worked her magic and Chad is on the road to recovery.

The clinic decided that since he was a fat boy college cat what better name than Chad! We agree!

Chad will have to have multiple surgeries on his neck but we are hopeful that he will make a full recovery.

I have spent the last week in the hospital myself and I’m going to have to take it slow for a little while. I will continue to do what I can but I can’t over do it.

If you would like to donate to Chad’s care I will post our donation information below. You can also call the clinic and donate directly under our Texas Cat Coalition account. Their number is (361) 833-6022. They are open weekdays 11:00AM - 8:00PM.

Thank you Melissa for getting Chad safe and thank you STVUC for saving his life! PayPal: [email protected]

Ernie has officially completed his FIP observation period and is considered cured from neurological FIP!

FIP used to be a death sentence but that no longer is the case. There is now a cure and it’s saving thousands of cats a year!

Ernie’s case was very unique. He was completely paralyzed for 6 weeks. Most people would have given up but you could see in Ernie’s eye that he wanted to live. After several vet visits he was finally diagnosed with FIP and started medication immediately. Usually treatment is 84 days on medication and 84 days observation, but because of his unique symptoms he was treated and then observed for 187 days each.

His transformation has been nothing short of a miracle! He acts like a normal cat now. He enjoys running and jumping, taking long naps and he absolutely loves to snuggle.

We didn’t do this alone. We worked closely with our vet teams, other rescues, and our amazing donors and supporters. This was a team effort and Ernie is thriving because of it!

Potato had her post surgery check up today. Dr. Bubenik was happy with her progress and she gets to come off all her meds and no more cone. She still has a week of rest before she’s allowed to run and play, but it seems there’s a light at the end of the tunnel!

Potato has been such a little fighter and I can’t say enough good things about Sugarland Veterinary Specialists. They have been just great!
