Greater Caddo Lake Association of Texas

Greater Caddo Lake Association of Texas GCLA of Texas is a 501-c(3) organization. Visit us at https//www.gclaoftx.org Now, with the most critical challenge of all, the GCLA is taking on Giant Salvinia.

The fight to keep Caddo Lake a natural, unspoiled part of East Texas and Northwest Louisiana has been on-going since the early 1900s. With a varied and colorful history, Caddo Lake is unlike any other, and GCLA of Texas was formed to keep it in it's natural state. Caddo Lake has suffered loss of flow from dams upstream, which has allowed silt to fill the lake and threaten species, such as the padd

lefish, which had existed here in proliferation. The GCLA has been instrumental in spearheading the battle against invasive species, such as the water hyacinth. Spraying has been on-going for the invasive, but it can multiply faster than it can be killed. With the help of GCLA members and other people who value and enjoy the beauty that is Caddo, a weevil-raising facility is in the works to breed and distribute the weevils, which are the only natural predators of the salvinia.
