🌿 Contract Opportunity: Protecting Pālehua

Mālama Learning Center is seeking a qualified contractor to guide the mauka community of Pālehua through a collaborative Firewise planning process.

The selected contractor will:

🔥 Lead community Firewise planning meetings
🔥 Support the Community Wildfire Risk Assessment
🔥 Gather community input and shared priorities
🔥 Draft, revise, and deliver a practical three-year Action Plan

📍 Primary location: Pālehua, Oʻahu
📅 Contract period: September 1, 2026–May 31, 2027
💰 Fixed fee: Not to exceed $9,000
✅ Qualifications: At least two years of relevant planning or facilitation experience

Mālama Learning Center and Kuleana Coral Restoration invite our community to join us for a Laulima Community Workday at Nānākuli Muliwai for a morning of hands-on restoration, learning, and connection from wetland to reef.

📍 Kalanianaʻole Beach Park, Nānākuli

Together, we’ll care for this important place while learning more about the connection between healthy wetlands, our coastline, and the ocean beyond. Whether you’ve volunteered with us before or this is your first time, everyone is welcome to come lend a hand and be part of the work. 💚

At Mālama Learning Center, every gathering is an opportunity to deepen our relationship with ʻāina, learn from one another, and strengthen the communities we call home.

Whether we’re restoring native ecosystems, sharing ʻike, growing together, or simply taking time to appreciate the places that sustain us, each moment reminds us that caring for the land also means caring for each other.

🌱 Celebrating Our MLC Interns! 🌱

We are incredibly grateful for the energy, curiosity, hard work, and heart our interns bring to Mālama Learning Center. 💚

From getting their hands in the ʻāina and caring for native plants, to supporting restoration, education, outreach, and community events, our interns have stepped into every experience ready to learn, contribute, and grow.

Internships at MLC are about more than gaining experience, they’re about building relationships with place, community, and one another. We hope the lessons learned here continue far beyond their time with us and inspire a lifelong commitment to caring for Hawaiʻi.
