I truly believe my life becomes richer the more I can give to others, and I understand that I’ve been given an awesome responsibility that is inherent in my life and story. Especially on Veterans Day, I know that the better I can craft the story to deliver a message of inspiration, motivation, and aspiration to those who need it most, then I am doing right by my fellow brothers and sisters in arms.
It was may privilege and pleasure to give a virtual presentation yesterday to 400 patriots within Third Coast Underwriters’ Veteran Employee Resource Network.
I’m determined to deliver a speech that is worthy of an audience’s time and attention. Here’s some of the feedback I received last night from the organizer…
“Many comments that said it was the best presentation they have ever seen at our company…Your style of starting with Bad Water and then saying, ‘how did I get here,’ followed by your past experiences was excellent… Let me know if you need me as a reference for any future gigs… It will be my pleasure to add a testimonial.”
I always want to do WELL. This day I got to do GOOD.
Now, I’m off to some remote location outside San Antonio where I’ll be delivering another presentation to more Veterans at the Band of Runners Camp. This organization uses trail and endurance running as a healthy remedy for su***de, PTSD, substance abuse, etc.
I can’t be absolutely certain, but I think I’ll be right at home among a bunch of Veteran service members who are runners and are intimate with their resilience being tested. Ha!
It’s funny how many things stick in my mind that I read in a meme, but none so strong as this one…
Someday, the story of your struggle may be the blueprint for someone else’s survival.
With that in mind, it is my ethical imperative…it is my duty as a Veteran to do all I can to ensure no one gets left behind. The oath I swore has no expiration date.
I’m proud to have served. I’m grateful for all who have and still do serve our United States military. From the mountain towns to the fishing villages, the burbs to the city, farmlands and urban districts…your neighbors, cousins, and that guy on the other side of the cubicle.
The best things I can give to them is a heartfelt thanks and a story. It’s not enough, but it’s the best I’ve got, because you deserve it.
Please, join me this November 11th in thanking the courage and sacrifice of our nation’s best so we can live in the greatest place and the best time in human history.
