Stewardship of the Prophetic Utterance: Part 1
Teaching Point!
There is No authentic prophetic outflow without the inflow of Father’s presence first.
In this teaching we are considering prophetic stewardship through the dimensions of the prophetic office. Our starting place is intimate relationship with the Father. From there, we will trace knowing His voice, formation by the Holy Spirit, commission, authority, and authentic release.
I. They Know God’s Voice
A. Knowing is the foundation
Jesus says that His sheep know His voice. They hear Him and follow Him, and they will not follow a stranger. This truth stops us in our tracks. Our prophetic ministry proceeds from knowing the One who speaks. John 10:4–5, 27
Hebrew: יָדַע — Yada
Yada means “to know.” Its range includes knowing through experience, perceiving, understanding, and knowing a person intimately. In our teaching, we emphasize its relational dimension: knowing God through communion with Him. The context determines the particular meaning. Hebrew lexicon
Greek: γινώσκω — Ginōskō
Ginōskō means “to know,” “to come to know,” or “to recognize.” In John 10:14, Jesus uses this verb when speaking of knowing His sheep and being known by them. The relationship between the Shepherd and His sheep gives this knowing its personal depth. In John 10:27, it appears in His declaration, “I know them.” John 10:14, John 10:27
Greek in “They know His voice”: οἶδα — Oida
John 10:4 uses οἴδασιν (oidasin), meaning “they know,” from oida. This is the actual Greek word in the statement that the sheep know His voice. Read alongside John 10:14, the passage connects knowing His voice with the relationship between the Shepherd and His sheep. John 10:4
“The Hebrew word yada gives us language for intimate, relational knowing. In John 10, Jesus describes His sheep as knowing His voice, using oida, and describes their relationship of knowing Him and being known by Him, using ginōskō. Together, these statements give substance to our teaching: we hear His voice within a living relationship with the One who speaks.”
B. Intimacy brings us into knowing
It requires intimacy to hear and know the voice of God. We are speaking about knowing Him through communion, through our life with Him, and through the relationship we continually maintain.
We use the Hebrew word yada here to express relational knowing. John’s Gospel is written in Greek; yada gives language to the dimension of intimacy we are emphasizing.
C. Experiential Knowing (yada) supplies the release of prophetic power
The prophetic utterance flows from knowing the Father. Inspiration finds its substance in relationship with the One who speaks. We carry what we have received in communion with Him.
* This is a vital point for ministry maturity. As ministers of the Gospel of Christ, we are often distracted by the work of ministry instead of sitting at Jesus feet. For this reason, we hindered to achieve maximum inflow for effective outflow of Fathers voice through us. Take a moment and wait here!!!
II. Habitual Intimacy and Alignment
A. Communion becomes our way of life
Habitual intimacy with the Father and alignment with the Holy Spirit are foundational for accurate prophetic release. Communion belongs within the daily life of the minister. Our time with Him sustains the ministry we carry.
* This may seem repetitive, but we cannot fully operate in our prophetic ministry without stewardship of intimacy with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The way of life is like breath, eating, sleeping, love. This is what we do in Father’s presence. Our life in the Spirit must be sustained by His Word in us and His continual inflow of His presence. It’s a transfer of His being!
B. We maintain a constant inflow
It is vital for those of us who operate in mature prophetic ministry to maintain a constant inflow of of the Father’s voice. We continue receiving from Him as we continue edify, comfort, and exhort the Body of Christ. Thus, our ministry rhythm gives His presence first place.
* See above! This is where we, as ministers stumble. The pressures of the commission often takes priority over the Voice of the Father, and we often slip in prophetic vision and accuracy because we do not recognize His voice speaking through the mental chaos.
* Intimacy with the Father ensures that our prophetic word is true and accurate, that it does not proceed from our soul, but from the Holy Spirit as its author!
This is the heart of our teaching. We receive from the Father, remain aligned with His Spirit, and release the word entrusted to us.
III. In Intimacy We Are Trained by the Holy Spirit Himself-the school of the Holy Spirit!
A. Formation and transformation takes place in His presence!
In intimacy, we are trained by the Holy Spirit Himself, and the Word of God (Christ, John !;1-5) ) is the Communion where prophetic formation and prophetic inflow meet. As ministers, we bring our whole life, body, soul, and spirit into that relationship. Christ transforms our being into to His Word that flows out of us. We declare His glory in the earth! This powerful transformation cannot be taken lightly.
We can draw an example of this ministry application from John the Baptist preparation. Luke records his growth in spirit and his wilderness years, while leaving the daily details of that formation unrecorded.
B. God’s word supplies the proclamation

Luke 3:2 locates the source of John’s public ministry: the word of God came to him in the wilderness. He received before he proclaimed. The inflow supplied the outflow. Luke 3:2
* The word came to a man already carrying a calling. His public release emerged within the life and commission God had established. John came out of the wilderness proclaiming transformation through baptism and prepared the way for Christ’s earthly ministry. As a prophetic voice, we also prepare the way for manifestation of Holy Spirit in the lives of others.
C. Divine instruction serves the assignment
John testified that the One who sent him to baptize had told him how to recognize the One who would baptize with the Holy Spirit. His assignment came with instruction from God. His testimony proceeded from what he had received. John 1:32–34
We see commission, instruction, recognition, and testimony working together. The prophet receives what is needed to steward the assignment.
The above statement is core of ministry architecture. We must be faithful stewards of the divine revelation.
IV. Stewarding the Office and the Gift
A. Prophetic expression has a place in the body
We are all called into Christ and His body. We share in His life, have access to the Father, and receive from the ministry He supplies through His body.
A prophetic vessel may move by instantaneous inspiration and faithfully release what the Holy Spirit gives. That expression has a place within the body. First Corinthians 12:7–11 identifies prophecy among the manifestations of the Spirit.
B. The office carries a continuing commission
The office distinguishes the prophet from the operation of the gift. Ephesians 4:11–12 identifies prophets among the ministers Christ gives for the equipping of His people and the building of His body.
Shared access to Christ’s presence and prophetic ministry does not itself appoint every believer to the office. The prophet carries a particular commission within the body, together with continuing responsibility for that commission.
C. Stewardship encompasses the minister’s life
The true prophet operates from the office. That office encompasses relationship, formation, assignment, authority, and responsibility for the prophetic utterance.
An individual release expresses a moment of ministry. The office is carried through the minister’s ongoing life before God. Its stewardship includes the communion from which the release proceeds.
IV. Prophetic Stewardship Requires Consecration
* As ministers, we carry the prophetic office through a life consecrated to the Father. Our hearts, thoughts, words, and actions are yielded to Him. We belong to the One whose voice we release.
* Holy consecration makes room for the Holy Spirit to govern our inward life and our outward expression. In intimacy, He forms our motives and aligns our desires with the Father’s heart. The stewardship of the utterance encompasses the consecration of the minister who carries it.
Hebrew: קָדַשׁ — Qadash
Qadash means “to consecrate,” “to sanctify,” or “to set apart as holy.” In relation to God, it speaks of people or things dedicated to Him and His service. Hebrew lexicon
Greek: ἁγιάζω — Hagiazō
Hagiazō means “to sanctify,” “to make holy,” or “to consecrate.” It is the verb describing the setting apart of someone or something as sacred. Greek lexicon
Greek noun: ἁγιασμός — Hagiasmos
Hagiasmos means “consecration” or “sanctification.” Depending on context, it describes the process or result of being sanctified. Greek lexicon
“Holy consecration carries the meaning of being set apart unto God. The Hebrew qadash and the Greek hagiazō express this dedication to Him. For us as ministers, consecration encompasses our whole life. We belong to the Father, and our hearts, words, and ministry are devoted to His purpose. We carry His utterance as vessels consecrated to His service.”
V. John the Baptist and Prophetic Formation Through Consecration
A. His calling reached into the womb
John’s prophetic calling was established before birth. Gabriel announced that he would be filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother’s womb. When Mary greeted Elizabeth, John leaped for joy within her. His response preceded his public proclamation. Luke 1:15, 41–44
B. His life began in a priestly household
Zechariah, John’s father, served as a priest. Elizabeth, his mother, descended from Aaron. Both walked righteously before God. John’s beginnings placed him within a household devoted to the Lord. Luke 1:5–6.
C. He carried his calling through the wilderness years
Luke records that John grew, became strong in spirit, and lived in the wilderness until his public appearance to Israel. The wilderness held his years of preparation and became the setting of his public ministry. Luke does not specify the age at which he entered it. Luke 1:80
For our teaching, we understand these years as prophetic formation in relationship with God. John carried his calling before the people heard his voice. His life was being prepared to bear the commission entrusted to him.
V. In Intimacy We Are Trained by the Holy Spirit Himself
A. Formation takes place before God
In intimacy, we are trained by the Holy Spirit Himself. Communion with Him is where prophetic formation and prophetic inflow meet. As ministers, we bring our whole life into that relationship.
In this secret place we learn how the Holy Spirit thinks, operates, and conducts the business of the Kingdom. Every prophetic word is rooted in Kingdom progression in our hearts. God is always working in Kingdom structure.
For example, if the prophetic word is a future revelation, it is always about what the Father is planning to bring to pass in our lives to bring us into Kingdom reality. I challenge you to test the prophetic utterance in alignment with Kingdom mandate. This is crucial and not often taught.
God is always transforming us to think like Him. We have his mind! When we start thinking like Him, the prophetic flow will always be accurate.
This is the ministry application we draw from John’s preparation. Luke records his growth in spirit and his wilderness years, while leaving the daily details of that formation unrecorded.

The Word of God is always the central focus of any prophetic utterance. If you are not a Word person, then you cannot truly give the correct Word of the Spirit. THIS IS IMPORTANT! DO YOU GET A DAILY PROPHETIC WORD FROM THE WORD OF GOD, SCRIPTURE! If not, stop here and start stewarding His Word in your mouth and heart. I teach this because we do not live without the WORD. Christ is the WORD, the WORD is our compass, and if you cannot steward the WORD, how can you give a clear accurate prophetic utterance that is sustainable.
Understanding the principles of the Word is VITAL!!!! I cannot stress this enough. Intimacy with the Father, Intimacy with the Holy Spirit, is intimacy with the WORD.
