Please join us in congratulating our Clinical Advisor, Dr. Grey Endres, on an incredible accomplishment!🙌

After more than three years of vision, leadership, and perseverance, Grey led MoWest's Master of Social Work (MSW) program from concept to accreditation, culminating in initial accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education. This was no small feat! During this accreditation cycle, only 6 of 14 new MSW programs across the country earned initial accreditation without citations or provisional requirements, and Missouri Western was one of them.

Why does this matter? Because stronger social work programs mean more highly trained therapists entering the workforce, expanding access to critical mental health services for individuals, families, and communities.

We're grateful to have Grey sharing his expertise with Newhouse while helping shape the next generation of social workers. Congratulations to Grey on this well-earned achievement and the lasting impact your leadership will have for years to come!

This summer, we've had the privilege of welcoming Alex to Newhouse as an intern, and we're incredibly grateful for everything he brought to our team.

From supporting our programs and contributing to meaningful projects to approaching every opportunity with professionalism, curiosity, and compassion, Alex made a lasting impact in a short amount of time. We've been so impressed with his hard work and dedication and we can't wait to see where his future takes him!

Alex shared, "Newhouse has provided me with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to gain first-hand experience working in the nonprofit world while also building amazing relationships with both the staff and the residents. It is some of the most fulfilling work I have ever done, and I would not trade my time here for the world."

A heartfelt thank you to the volunteers from Colliers for rolling up their sleeves and helping wherever it was needed... from organizing our clothing boutique to sweeping, mopping, cleaning our dining areas, wiping down furniture and living spaces, and tackling countless other tasks that make a big difference.

We're still smiling from and grateful for the opportunity to spend time with the The Kansas City Chiefs organization! Courtney Lea Thomas, Newhouse President + CEO, kicked off our event with them by providing training for players and coaches on domestic violence and sexual violence, while sharing how Newhouse supports survivors and families every day.

After the training, the players rolled up their sleeves to pack grocery and cleaning kits, generously donated by Hy-Vee, for families at Newhouse. They filled a U-Haul and additional vehicles with much-needed supplies, bringing big smiles to our clients. One of the most meaningful moments was seeing players handwrite encouraging notes for survivors!

Thank you to Chiefs and Hy-Vee for investing your time, your hearts, and your strength in our community!

👀 WATCH: New story! 📣 Now that the Missouri budget has been approved, we're focused on another critical issue that's up for vote soon. On August 4, Missourians will vote on Amendment 5, a proposed constitutional amendment that would eliminate individual income tax, which will impact survivors and families.

At Newhouse, we believe this amendment could have serious consequences for survivors and the nonprofit organizations like us that serve them. Survivors and families across Missouri could face higher costs on everyday necessities and food through increased sales tax, along with increased property taxes, and more tourism taxes. Additionally, our organization could see a steep decline in funding because the tax credit incentives that drive many donor contributions would no longer be relevant.

"When you think about income tax eliminations, the loss of incentives through tax credits, you're talking about service elimination, you're talking about people's lives who will no longer have the safety that organizations like Newhouse provide to them," Courtney Thomas, Newhouse President + CEO, said.

That's why Newhouse is urging Missourians to vote NO on Amendment 5 on August 4.

We are grateful and relieved that Missouri's 2027 budget includes $9 million in General Revenue for the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) and $1 million for Domestic Violence Shelters & Services (DVSS). These critical investments help Newhouse and organizations across Missouri continue providing lifesaving services to survivors of domestic violence and other crimes.

Thank you to the Governor and Missouri legislators for recognizing the importance of this work and investing in the safety and well-being of Missourians.

Earlier this year, we learned that the historical $25 million in General Revenue for VOCA had been reduced to $0—a devastating cut that would have threatened lifesaving services statewide. Thanks to advocacy and collaboration of crime victims services leaders, and countless conversations with community partners and lawmakers, funding was restored to $9 million.

While this remains a significant reduction from previous funding levels and challenges still lie ahead, we are thankful this outcome was not as devastating as it could have been with a total loss of funding. We remain committed to advocating for survivors and ensuring survivors seeking safety have somewhere to turn.
