For the last 2 years, I have loved serving as a Metropolitan Community College Trustee and want to continue to serve. Here are a few of the things that I have been focused on during my term. I have spent my first term as a Trustee for the Junior College District of Metropolitan Kansas City (MCC: Blue River, Business and Technology, Longview, Maple Woods, Penn Valley) working for students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community. These have included countless functions, such as the Longfellow Alumni Reception and Penn Valley Common Read Events, at the college campuses. Attending these types of functions, I hope it has helped students, faculty, staff, and administrators know that the Board of Trustees is an engaged Board. I truly care what is happening at the campus level throughout the District.
Seeking the communities’ views has been an important part of how I have served on the Board of Trustees. I have spent many evenings and weekends attending Neighborhood Associations and Homes Owner’s Associations meetings. I also wanted to make sure that the community had a chance to address any questions, such as if tuition was free for senior citizens, about the college directly to me.
I take fiscal responsibility to the taxpayers of Kansas City very seriously. Please know that I look after your taxpayer dollars carefully. I read and research each board packet. I make sure that I understand each agenda item, and if not ask as many questions as necessary to fully understand what it is I will be voting on.
Please be careful as you go to the polls tomorrow, June 2nd.
Some of us will voting at new locations as a result of changes made to protect public safety while voting. I respectfully ask for your vote on June 2nd.
Thank you,
Cindy Adams
