Last night was bittersweet. We had our last swim party of the summer at Linda Vetter swimming pool. It was perfect weather and the kids were so excited and grinned from ear to ear all night. I am reflecting on all that Linda does to make the best night for the kids. She makes sure she has swimsuits for any child who needs one. The kids never bring towels so she provides all the towels, she cooks enough hot dogs for kids to eat as many as they want, she cuts watermelon for all the kids, and provides drinks chips and ice cream sundaes for all. She works so hard to make it a memory they never forget.
It is a lot of work to coordinate and pickup all the kids and I am exhausted before I even arrive but all that exhaustion goes out the window when you see the smiles and screams of joy these kids give you all night. I am excited to get a small break until school starts back again but these kids have a way of reminding you every time you see them why coming back day after day to make everlasting memories matters so much. Now all I can think is how much I am going to miss them for the rest of summer break. I wouldn't trade anything in the world for these kids and the complete joy they give me. Sometimes I think volunteering at the Milestone is a blessing to the kids but at the end of the day I am the one being blessed more than I could even imagine. I love every one of these kids and I am so glad we are in each other's lives. God has a way of bringing you the best things in life thru little smiles and happy faces.
