Digital Skills Instructor Train the Trainer Session

Event Date: January 8th & January 15th

Time: 1:00-4:00 PM

📣 Calling all Digital Life Exchange current or interested partners in the KC metro area! 📣 Do you have someone on your team who you would like to become a digital skills trainer? Look no further than this free opportunity, hosted by Carol Meyers, Digital Skills Trainer at KC Digital Drive. With decades’ worth of training experience, Carol is excited to help develop and enhance the skills needed to be an effective trainer. The first session will include tips and tricks and plenty of engaging activities, then for the second session participants will create a curriculum on a subject of their choice (preferably about digital literacy) and deliver it to the workshop attendees.

10 Years of Digital Skills Training at LAMP: Celebrating Dave Mountjoy

Meet Dave Mountjoy, an inspiring force of digital inclusion at the LAMP Campus and our longest-serving volunteer. With a background in electrical engineering, Dave has dedicated the past 10 years to empowering our community through digital skills education.

Upon retiring, Dave sought to share his expertise in technology through courses on Excel and file management. His classes provide essential skills that enhance both personal and professional growth.

Dave’s commitment is fueled by the students who embrace learning regardless of their circumstances, bridging the digital divide in our community.

Today, we're diving into the world of internet speeds to help you determine which speed is best suited for your household's needs. Whether you're a light browser or a content creator, this guide will simplify your decision-making process.

Light Users (1-2 people)

- Basic browsing, email, social media
- Recommended: 25-50 Mbps

Moderate Users (2-4 people)

- Streaming HD video, video calls, online gaming
- Recommended: 50-100 Mbps

Heavy Users (4+ people)
- Multiple 4K streams, large file downloads, smart home devices
- Recommended: 100-300 Mbps

Power Users

- Content creators, remote workers with large file transfers
- Recommended: 300+ Mbps

Test Your Current Speed

Before upgrading, it's crucial to know what speeds you're currently receiving. Here's how:

- Visit fast.com or speedtest.net
- Test at different times of day
- Use multiple devices for testing
- Compare the results to your current plan

Pro Tips

✅ Upload speed matters too - Essential for video calls and cloud backups

✅ Consider peak usage times - When is everyone home on devices?

Red Flags You Need More Speed

- Buffering during video streams

Money-Saving Tip

A fun fact about Carol is that for her 80th birthday she celebrated by going skydiving!

💻Come drop in weekdays from 1-3pm to use our computers for surfing the web, building a resume, looking for jobs, or getting digital skills certificates through Northstar Digital Literacy.

Our digital skills trainer Carol will be available if you need additional support. We're here for you! No appointment needed.
