Altrusa International is an international association of civic-minded women and men who volunteer their energies and expertise in projects dedicated to community betterment. Nearly 10,000 Altrusans worldwide are proud of their community commitment to enhance the lives of those in their local and global communities. Since their inception in 1917, Altrusa clubs and members, like Eleanor Roosevelt an
d Dr. Lillian Gilbreth, have been providing hands on community service. Providing over 1 million collective volunteer hours in their communities, Altrusa clubs serve in over 360 communities in 11 countries. The nonprofit Foundation assists projects emphasizing literacy. Altrusa International of Greater Kansas City begins a new three-year service plan. It is an ambitious undertaking committing Altrusans to more than twenty-five days of service each year to a wide range of organizations needing help. Altrusans will be working with Awesome Ambitions, Inc., Literacy Kansas City, Military Overseas Coupon Program, Habitat for Humanity, Operation Breakthrough, ReDiscover Holiday Homes Tour, Dictionary Project, Elmwood Cemetery, Harvesters Community Food Bank, Beanstalk Garden, Higher M-Pact, and Upper Room.
