โ๏ธ ๐จ UNRULY PASSENGER UPDATE: 10 Months Prison & $73K Fine for Mid-Air Assault
A shocking mid-air rampage has resulted in a 10-month prison sentence and a financial penalty for a passenger.
On Monday, June 1, 2026, a US court sentenced 43-year-old Jan Daeninck following a terrifying incident aboard a SWISS flight from Newark to Zurich.
Shortly after takeoff, Daeninck left his seat and launched an unprovoked attack on a female flight attendant. After she managed to escape, he ran to the front of the Airbus A330 and began violently kicking the cockpit door.
When a male crew member intervened, Daeninck turned on him, punching him repeatedly in the face and body. The crew - along with assistance from others onboard - finally managed to pin Daeninck to the floor, even as he actively tried to bite them.
The pilots immediately turned the aircraft around and made an emergency landing back at Newark, where police were waiting to arrest him.
The male flight attendant required hospital treatment for his injuries.
In addition to 10 months in prison, Daeninck has been ordered to pay over $73,000 in restitution to cover the damages and costs incurred by the airline.
A massive shoutout to the crew for their quick thinking and bravery in regaining control of the cabin under extreme pressure. Cabin crew are there for our safety, not to be a punching bag.
What do you think? Is a 10-month sentence enough of a deterrent for putting an entire aircraft at risk, or should the penalties for cockpit-breach attempts be much harsher?
