CSWS recently was awarded a grant to help support economic development in our neighborhood. The project involves a series of workshops designed to help entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners build the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to launch or expand a business. We chose 8 applicants for our first cohort. Our goal is to equip participants with the practical tools, business knowledge, and resources to succeed.

Thanks to the Community Capital Fund and their Rooted Change grant program for their support.

Citizen action gets results! Today a team of City workers installed a speed bump in front of our Resource Center. In recent months some of our volunteers assisted with collecting signatures on our block in support of this traffic calming device. Volunteers from Saint Mary of Egypt Orthodox Church up the street gathered more signatures and submitted the petition to get speed bumps on our street. And today two were installed - one on our block and one on the 3700 block in front of the Church. Congratulations to everyone who helped accomplish our goal of creating a safer street for neighbors!

We have just been awarded a grant to develop our community garden and side lots, adding taller raised beds for better accessibility, tables, chairs, and benches to allow people to enjoy social aspects of the garden, and a deck and shade structure for programs, activities, and keeping cool!

Supported through AARP Livable Communities and AARP Missouri, the grant program is designed to make communities and neighborhoods more livable for people of all ages. We’ll be working across the summer and into the fall on our project - follow us here to follow our progress!

Another great day in the garden! We harvested some onions, and helped neighbors who stopped by harvest too! We love to share the veggies we grow with our neighbors - we harvest every Saturday morning! So healthy; so delicious! Join us!

Attended the 2026 Neighborhoods Rising Fund/ Community Capital Fund award breakfast this morning with Board Member LaKiesha Cotton. We were awarded a grant to partner on a neighborhood back-to-school event in August. It was energizing to see how many neighborhoods are stepping up to support their residents. Details to come later this summer about our event - stay tuned!

Sharing resources... if you need food or other items check out this weekly event.

From 5:30p-7:00p every Monday, Micah offers a warm meal, hygiene products, clothing, additional food items, pet food, a free medical clinic from Care Beyond the Boulevard, and items to support our house-less neighbors such as blankets, sleeping bags, tents, etc.

One of our oldest programs is raking leaves for seniors, and we raked today for one of the oldest residents in the neighborhood - a 96-year old long-time neighborhood resident. It was a pleasure to do this!
