Our Community Showing Up All Summer 💚

This summer, we have been reminded once again that CBB’s work is made stronger by the people who show up alongside us. Community volunteer groups help us care for our patients, prepare for outreach, support our programs, and keep important work moving across Kansas City.

GFiber’s team spent time volunteering at the Beehive by helping us put together snack packs, learning more about the computer lab they helped fund, and staffing our water station outside during one of the hottest days of the summer. Their time and energy helped us support our patients in meaningful ways, and we are honored to count with their support.

KCU students also joined us for their WE CARE Day and helped organize our storage unit, making it easier for our team to find and prepare the supplies we use throughout the year.

We were also grateful to welcome Mission Adelante’s summer youth interns. They spent an afternoon learning about CBB’s work, helping load our Big Green Bus, and writing notes of encouragement to include in our hygiene kits and snack packs. Those personal messages are a small reminder to our patients that their community sees them and cares about them.

We are thankful for GFiber, KCU, Mission Adelante, and every group that has volunteered with CBB this summer. We are just as grateful for our regular volunteers, who continue to give their time, skills, and compassion to help our patients throughout the year.

Community support helps us keep care moving. Whether it is organizing supplies, preparing snack packs, sharing information, or simply lending a hand, every volunteer makes a difference in the work we do.

A Summer in the Community 💚

This summer, our team has stayed busy showing up across Kansas City and connecting with our neighbors in all kinds of spaces. While much of our work happens through clinics and street outreach, being present at community events is another important way we share information, build relationships, and let people know that care is available.

For example, this summer we tabled at Fresh Spin Laundry’s grand opening and The Prospect KC’s GumboFest, put on our annual overdose prevention health fair, and connected with families during PAL’S back-to-school night where our team provided physicals for nearly 100 children.

We also hosted a collaborative learning and CEU event for providers and nurses focused on Medication Assisted Treatment. Events like this help strengthen the network of care available to people throughout our community.

Another special moments this summer was speaking with the Junior Board at a local middle school after their team presented on CBB’s work and selected us to receive $2,500. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our mission with the next generation of community leaders.

Every conversation, event, and partnership helps more people learn about CBB and the services we provide. We love being out in the community, listening to our neighbors, sharing resources, and building relationships that help keep care moving across Kansas City.

Summer at the Beehive 💚

All summer long, our team has continued creating space for care, connection, and opportunity in the heart of Kansas City. Every Tuesday through Thursday, our clinic at the Beehive has remained open for neighbors who are uninsured, underserved, or experiencing barriers to traditional healthcare.

Alongside our medical services, we have added new ways to support our community. All services remain 100% free, and our doors are open to anyone in the community.

Our computer lab helps patients access the internet to complete applications, search for jobs, and build digital skills. Our monthly foot clinic and Women’s Health Clinic have become very popular, and we’re proud to provide special care for patients who may not have anywhere else to turn.

We’ve also expanded our dental services. On Thursdays, patients can now receive general and restorative dental care in addition to the emergency extractions our Wednesday dental team already provides.

These added clinics and services are helping our neighbors address pain, improve their health, and feel more confident in their everyday lives. Accessing all these services in one place also helps remove barriers for our patients!

The Beehive is more than a free clinic or a place for patients to come and cool off during extreme heat. It’s a true collaboration where healthcare, technology, education, and social support come together under one roof.

This work is possible because of our dedicated staff, volunteers, partners, and supporters. You help us keep the doors open, expand services, and make sure our neighbors have a place to go when they need care.

But don’t just take it from us. One of our patients recently shared a few heartfelt words about their experience at the Beehive, and we are honored to share their note with you.
