What our Northeast KCK community has experienced has changed a lot for our organization.

Yes, we have an emergency in front of us and families who need help right now. But we also have to think about what happens after the emergency is over.

Groundwork NRG has been on the ground alongside Justice for Wyandotte, The Village Initiative, Inc., Matthew Kleinmann, Dominic Foreman, Kanbe's Markets, and so many others. We have been figuring it out as we go, making calls, bringing resources together, putting a framework in place and most importantly, showing up.

Nobody stopped to ask about titles or who was in charge. Nobody had time to worry about who would get the credit. We saw a community in need and went to work.

That is what community looks like.

But I also know we cannot stop at recovery.

This has been a wake-up call. We have to take what we are learning right now and use it to make sure our community is better prepared for tomorrow. That means building stronger relationships, having resources in place, sharing information and making sure our residents know where to go and what to do before the next emergency happens.

No one organization can do this alone.

There is enough wall for all of us to build.

As Executive Director of Groundwork NRG, I know my responsibility is not to have my name attached to everything. My responsibility is to show up, bring people together, help put the pieces in place and make sure the work gets done.

And we still have work to do. We Are Our Community.
Let’s keep showing up for one another. Let’s recover. Let’s prepare. And let’s rebuild, together!

Thank you to Walmart for supporting our community. Thank you First Baptist Church, Pastor Rowan, for allowing the 3 trucks of delivery today!!! Community, Love and Peace, together we will sustain.

UG and Community Partners Seek Volunteers for Neighborhood Clean-Ups

The UG, in partnership with Justice for Wyandotte, the Village Initiative, the American Red Cross, and a host of other community agencies, is seeking volunteers willing to support storm response and recovery efforts in Wyandotte County.

✅If you or your organization, church group, or neighborhood would like to volunteer, we would greatly appreciate it. Individuals or groups of 15 or fewer available to help, are asked to join us at the Initiative Inc., 3004 N. 27th Street, KCK. Volunteer hours are from 9 AM–7 PM. Documented volunteer time may help our community meet FEMA disaster-recovery matching.

✅Skilled laborers and groups of 15 volunteers or more, please check in at the Volunteer Reception Center at the Kensington Community Center, 2900 State Avenue, KCK, from 8 AM - 4 PM on Saturday, August 22.

✅Unable to volunteer but would still like to help?
With many residents still without power, there is still a great need for donations and assistance. Supply and monetary donation information is available at the link below or at wycokck.org.

Thank you to Back to The Center for inviting Groundwork NRG to be part of the Feed the Block: Food Access, Grocery Equity & Nutrition panel at the Quindaro Community Center.

Our Executive Director, Shelley Coulter, joined community leaders for an important conversation about what food access really means for Northeast KCK.

It is about more than having a grocery store nearby. It is about affordability, quality, healthy choices and making sure residents have a voice in what comes into their community.

We are grateful for the conversation, the connections and, most importantly, the opportunity to hear directly from the people who live and work in our neighborhoods.

Thank you to everyone who continues to show up and be intentional about building a healthier, stronger Northeast KCK. There is still plenty of work ahead, and Groundwork NRG is proud to be part of it.
