My name is Kathy Goben, and I am the founder of Buckets of Love. I really wanted to find a way to love and help babies and children. I found a way to transform a plastic bucket into a cute organizer, and I originally intended to sell the buckets and donate the proceeds to local charities that help babies and children. Then my pastor steered me in another direction by suggesting I donate the bucket
s filled with needed items. I approached the Liberty Womenβs Clinic (LWC), a local crisis pregnancy clinic, with a bucket to ask if such an item could be of use and discovered that a previous woman who had been donating gift bags filled with baby supplies was no longer able to do so. The clinic was actually wanting such a product, and I found a place to put my buckets to good use. I aim to donate 3-4 buckets per month to the LWC. In addition to donating buckets to the LWC, I started selling buckets to raise money to donate more buckets. Over the course of 2014, I sold enough buckets to donate another 15 buckets on top my usual LWC donation. My contact at the LWC suggested Motherβs Refuge (MR), a shelter for homeless pregnant teens. MR takes care of the girls and gives them access to maternity care, education, and life classes. The girls can stay at MR until their baby is one year old, so they may learn how to competently care for their children. I contacted MR, who requested 12-15 buckets. After donating the initial 15 buckets, MR asked for me to continue donating 6 buckets every 4-6 months. I plan to continue these donations, as well as donate to other clinics, shelters, etc., as Buckets of Love grows.
