From relationship advice à la Sally Jessy Raphael to cleaning up after Clifford the Big Red Dog, we’re still chuckling thinking about last Thursday’s Comedic Relief event. In addition to the laughs, we learned that improv and community building have a lot common: They can happen anywhere, don’t require a formal setting, and anyone can do it!

This event would not have been possible without…

• Master of ceremonies The Hil & I and all the improv performers from Improv Springboard, Act Your Age Improv, U People, and U-Hollers

• Decarcerate KC, He{ART}land Arts, and The Kansas City Defender for providing inspiring civic interludes

• The Black Box for hosting us

• Panel facilitator Zach Perez and the whole KCUR team for helping organize the event

Thanks to all of our partners and to everyone who joined us!

Purchase tickets to The Moth StorySLAM at Knuckleheads Garage through Gen Listen to have reserved seats ready upon arrival, support KCUR and save a few bucks in the process!

The Moth StorySLAM is an open-mic storytelling competition in which anyone can share a true, personal, 5-minute story on the night’s theme. Sign up for a chance to tell a story or sit back and enjoy the show!

February’s theme is…
LOVE HURTS: Prepare a five-minute story about a love that made you go OUCH. The agony of deferred love, the misery of good love gone bad, or the anguish of unrequited love. Situationships, friend break-ups, bad romances. The good, the bad, and the ugly that you survived...or you inflicted. A love that “Hurts So Good.”
