Illegal dumping doesn't stand a chance when we have a team that's committed to keeping Independence Avenue and the Historic Northeast looking their best. 🧹✨

The Independence Avenue Community Improvement District proudly maintains 22 city gardens along the corridor, and through our partnership with Missouri Conservation, we've expanded to include two native wildflower gardens that support pollinators and showcase the beauty of Missouri's natural landscape.

These gardens are more than flowers—they're an invitation to slow down, explore, and enjoy a little beauty in the middle of the city.

Whether you're driving through, walking the neighborhood, or visiting one of our amazing local businesses, we hope you'll take a moment to stop and enjoy the blooms.

⚽🌎 NEKC SPOT OF THE WEEK 🌎⚽

This week, we’re at IBCC Church—one of Northeast KC’s most beautiful and meaningful spaces.

From the historic architecture to the powerful community work happening inside, this spot represents the heart of NEKC.

It’s home to Ryogoku Soccer Academy, where youth are building skills, confidence, and connection through the game.

You’ll also find incredible artwork by Hasna Sal and programs like Micah Mondays, offering support and care to our unhoused neighbors—showing what community in action really looks like.

Places like this are what make Northeast KC more than a destination—it’s an experience rooted in people, purpose, and culture.

Today, our Urban Street Ambassadors tackled the challenging task of cleaning beneath the Truck-Eating Bridge—a city-owned public space that belongs to everyone in our community.

The area had become completely impassable as an encampment rapidly expanded, creating serious safety hazards and spilling into the roadway. Restoring safe access to this space was a priority for both the public and our crew.

A special thank you to KCPD for partnering with our Harm Reduction Specialist to offer resources to those in need while helping ensure the safety of our team throughout the cleanup.

Keeping our public spaces safe, accessible, and welcoming requires compassion, collaboration, and a commitment to serving both our community and those experiencing hardship.
