Dear IPNA Members:

The IPNA Triennial Congress is one of the major highlights of our Society, as it brings our membership together for a week of intensive education, updates and sharing of the latest research findings. It is also an important networking platform not only for our members, but also for pediatric nephrology trainees and researchers.

The IPNA Office is inviting you to participate in our Call for Expression of Interest for hosting the IPNA Triennial Congress in 2025. Please find here the document outlining in detail the process including the requirements and timeline.

The deadline for submission of applications is May 1, 2021 at 12:00 AM CET.

March 30th marks National Doctors' Day in the US. We are grateful for the enormous role doctors play in our society, and we have the greatest admiration for pediatric nephrologists in the US - and around the globe - who work tirelessly to treat the littlest patients. Thank you all for the work that you do!

We are extremely lucky to be a part of the ! We are working with 5 French engineering students from Unilasalle: Henri Baguenier Desormeaux, Laetitia Bonnel, Palmyre Deteix, Oriane Marteau and Jeanne Vandenbulcke, who are creating and implementing a Google marketing campaign to improve our visibility and improve conversions. We are excited to learn from them and watch their expertise help us grow! We had our first online meeting with the students, and they are all incredibly bright, asked pointed questions and showed great interest in IPNA and its mission. It is an honor to work with such great, young talent.

It's World Kidney Day! The World Kidney Day Steering Committee has declared 2021 the year of “Living Well with Kidney Disease”. This has been done in order to both increase education and awareness about effective symptom management and patient empowerment, with the ultimate goal of encouraging life participation. Whilst effective measures to prevent kidney disease and its progression are important, patients with kidney disease – including those who depend on dialysis and transplantation – and their care-partners should also feel supported, especially during pandemics and other challenging periods, by the concerted efforts of kidney care communities. What did you do today to raise awareness about Living Well with Kidney Disease?

IPNA is proud to announce Franz Schaefer from Germany as the new President-Elect from 2022-2025. During his Presidency he plans to continue the IPNA efforts to successfully address the care for all children with Kidney disease. Congratulations!

Please take a few moments to read the important message that follows from our president Hui Kim Yap, MD.

Dear Members and Friends,

The feedback from the participants in our teaching courses and the reports from the IPNA fellows and other programs prove to me we are building a movement to change young lives dealing with kidney disease for the better. Our training programs help to make health care more equitable throughout the world yet we must work together to accomplish much more to make enduring progress.

Covid 19 has impacted all of us in different ways in these unprecedented times. It will be awhile before we have an approved vaccine and even longer until the children with compromised immune systems are vaccinated especially those in resource poor areas. There are thousands of children in desperate need of proper treatment for kidney disease and we must continue to grow and adjust our methods to ensure the teaching and training programs continue.

Thus far in 2020, nine IPNA fellowships have been completed and 500 physicians attended five teaching courses that took place in person before the virus regulations required us to go virtual. These young docs are the seeds to our future as they share their experience and knowledge with others in their home country.

My motivation continues and we must do everything possible to ensure that all children worldwide receive the necessary care for kidney disease. Whereas proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment are key, we know that both are still unavailable in many parts of the world.

We have accelerated the process to covert programs to the virtual structure until such time it is safe to return to training in person. With your help, we can implement several programs and initiatives gaining traction toward our vision for Optimal care for all children with kidney disease.

We continue to seek financial support from organizations, and we need your support. As members and friends of IPNA, you can help by doing the following:

1. Donate to our Great Care for Little Kidneys Campaign. Go to the Little Kidney’s website to review the giving options, which include establishing a legacy gift, supporting fellowships & teaching courses or making a $125 donation to cover the cost for a membership for a physician in a developing country.

2. Forward this letter to your contacts, colleagues and friends and encourage them to donate.

We must work harder to raise awareness about kidney disease in children and IPNA’s mission. You are undoubtedly improving the lives of children through your commitment to your everyday work; I am requesting that you now consider further support with a donation to IPNA so that we can continue to meet the needs of children who need our assistance TODAY!
