Overview
The Electric Utility Industry Sustainable Supply Chain Alliance was formed to promote environmental stewardship and provide value to customers and shareholders. Focusing on non-fuel suppliers, the Alliance's goal is to work with industry suppliers and other interested parties to improve environmental performance and advance sustainable business practices
Mission
Alliance activities aim
to improve the sustainability of the products and service its members buy and use, as well as the performance of suppliers and supply chain operations. This will be done by:
• Developing voluntary consensus standards and frameworks;
• Working with stakeholders and value chain partners to collect and exchange successful practices; and
• Delivering tangible business value to member organizations through the application of sustainability practices. Vision
The Alliance is known as the leader in establishing a robust and sustainable electric utility industry supply chain including advancing the maturity level of our members and stakeholders
Guiding Principles
1. Members of the Alliance commit that current sourcing processes include, as a minimum standard:
• Compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations, as well as the environmental requirements of their companies;
• Compliance with all applicable safety laws and regulations, as well as safety requirements of their companies; and
• Compliance with all applicable requirements for the engagement of diverse businesses.
2. Procurement of fuel is not included in the scope of the Alliance.
3. Annually, the Alliance tracks and reports progress and performance improvement and communicates its goals and progress externally.
4. Through Working Teams, as defined in the bylaws, the Alliance commits to:
• Evaluate supply chain operations with respect to reducing air emissions and improving energy use, water consumption, recycling, waste minimization and other eco-efficiency measures;
• Evaluate the eco-efficiency When evaluating greenhouse gas emissions, consider all six greenhouse
• Collaborate with stakeholders, including suppliers and environmental NGOs, on the development of voluntary best practices, metrics and standards; and
• Establish an appropriate mechanism for suppliers’ verification of their performance data (e.g., publicly available data, self verification, third party endorsements). Additional Alliance Initiatives
• Develop methodology to establish baseline and track results.
• Develop specific initiatives related to objectives.
• Provide on-going support for existing category working teams.
