Midwest Adaptive Sports is proud to celebrate our Softball Program Director, John Teegarden, as he travels to Africa to help grow the game of wheelchair softball on a global stage!
In addition to leading our softball program here at MAS, John also serves as President of the National Wheelchair Softball Association. Today he joins four others traveling to Ghana and Nigeria to lead clinics, play exhibition games, and help launch a major new chapter for adaptive sports in Africa.
Athletes and representatives from seven countries — Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon, Uganda, Kenya, and Ivory Coast — will take part in this historic event, which is designed to help establish and grow wheelchair softball across the continent.
What makes this even more meaningful is that it all started with a connection made nearly 10 years ago at the Wheelchair Softball World Series. Since then, John and leaders in Nigeria have worked together to help build the African Wheelchair Softball Federation, which now includes nine countries.
This event is expected to become an annual African National Tournament and continue expanding opportunities for adaptive athletes for years to come.
John, thank you for your leadership, passion, and commitment to growing adaptive sports worldwide. We’re proud to have you representing Midwest Adaptive Sports and the wheelchair softball community around the globe. Safe travels!
