In Loving Memory of Viola Washington Slater,
May 25th, 1926-January 5th, 2025.
It is with sadness to post the death of Viola Washington-Slater. She was 98 years young! Viola leaves behind 10 children (some proceeded her in death) grandchildren, great, and great-great grandchildren.
I learned so much from Aunt Ola. She taught me if you treat people right, good will come to you in return. Now, this doesn’t mean she might not talk about you, but trust me it is all in love. Viola believed in bridging the gap by bringing family together. She told her children to check on me when I moved to Atlanta. Although Viola’s memory was not as sharp, I was surprised by what she knew and remembered about me. I will keep her words and encouragement close to my heart. I told her my husband died. She said she knew. She asked, “Have you got another husband yet?” I said, “No.” She said, “Good. They ain't nothing but trash!” Aunt Ola will keep you laughing.
Her thoughts on church: she attended church; however, she said church is within you and she knew God for herself. Viola was generous with her resources. She helped me and many others when in need. I felt sadness when I missed an opportunity to see her in 2022 when my father died. She moved to Colorado shortly after that. By the grace of God, I saw her last year when she moved to Atlanta. One of the advantages of having ten children is the ability to travel to see her children across the country. Viola has traveled to California, Colorado, and Georgia to be with family.
Viola is loved and missed already by her remaining children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, church members, neighbors, and friends. May she rest in eternal peace with God.
