We are going to experience bad weather over the next week or so. Snow is expected Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The weather forecast does not expect temperatures to be above freezing for the next 10 days. BRING YOUR PETS INDOORS!
If your PIPES FREEZE you could potentially be without water for 10 days. Here are some tips to prevent freezing pipes and what to do if your pipes freeze.
-Make sure your crawlspace doors are closed.
-Open all your kitchen cabinet doors. (This allows warmer air to get closer to the wall where your pipes are).
-Turn up the heat. (Consider keeping the temperature in the house 2̊ - 3̊ warmer than you would normally. If you are concerned with cost contact BPU and KS GAS for payment plan options)
-LET YOUR FAUCETS DRIP! (A drip should fall every one-three seconds. The cost is less than $1 a day)
-Let the faucet drip that is the furthest away from your utility room. For our residents that would be the bathtub faucet or the bathroom sink faucet.
-WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PIPES FREEZE. Contact the office 913-321-2471 and/or email thehomesinc@thehomesinc. We won’t be able to unfreeze your pipes, but we want to know if there is an issue. If your pipes thaw out contact us.
-Turn up the heat. Turning your thermostat up 5̊ - 10̊ will help thaw those pipes. Never raise the thermostat to the point you are physically uncomfortable or could cause health issues.
-Keep the faucet open/on. If the pipes start to thaw you will know because the drip will return.
If you LOSE POWER, you will need to be prepared AHEAD OF TIME! Here are some tips on how to prepare and
tips for staying warm.
