James knows what it means to face homelessness, loss, and uncertainty. In this video, shared at our 2026 Gala for Hope, James reflects on his experience and the relationships he built with the Cross-Lines team as he worked toward greater stability.
His story shows why consistent, compassionate outreach matters. Sometimes change begins simply by showing up, listening, building trust, and making sure someone knows they have a community willing to walk alongside them.

At Cross-Lines Community Outreach, we help our neighbors throughout Wyandotte County access food, housing stabilization, street outreach, and other resources that can create a path forward.

What an incredible night. 💚

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, guests, donors, volunteers, and community partners, this year’s Gala for Hope raised $204,225 to support the work of Cross-Lines Community Outreach!

Throughout the evening, we were reminded why this work matters so deeply. James’s story (see the video in a separate post and on our website!) was a powerful example of what can happen when someone is met with compassion, support, and a community willing to stand beside them.

The support in the room was extraordinary. From every ticket purchased and raffle chance bought to every auction bid and Gift of Giving donation, you showed just how much our community cares about helping neighbors facing hunger, housing instability, and homelessness.

Our Community Market is looking for volunteers!

Volunteers help create a welcoming, dignified shopping experience for our neighbors by assisting with check-out, serving as cart concierges, and helping keep the Market running smoothly.

Current openings are available Monday–Thursday between 9 AM–12 PM and 1–3 PM. Volunteers must be age 16+. Participants under 18 must volunteer alongside an adult or guardian.
