This past Saturday at the JuneteenthKC Cultural Parade, two young men of influence crossed paths—each leading in their own lane, yet both carrying the responsibility of serving others.

One is the Mayor of Kansas City, Mayor Quinton Lucas, entrusted with helping govern a great city and making decisions that impact hundreds of thousands of people.

The other is Master Architect Taurean Fuller, entrusted with helping lead and develop the young men of the Kansas City Prince Hall Builders – Sons of Hiram, guiding the next generation of leaders through mentorship, education, brotherhood, and service.

At first glance, those roles may seem worlds apart. But leadership is leadership.

A title doesn’t make a leader. Character does.

Whether you’re leading a city or leading your peers, true leadership requires:

✅ Humility
✅ Integrity
✅ Patience
✅ Accountability
✅ The ability to serve others before yourself

The Mayor governs citizens.

The Master Architect helps guide and develop builders.

Both positions require influence. Both require vision. Both require the willingness to show up and lead by example.

As I watched these two leaders interact, I was reminded that greatness begins long before someone gives you a title. Leadership starts with how you carry yourself, how you treat people, and how you inspire those around you.

Congratulations to Mayor Quinton Lucas and Master Architect Taurean Fuller for representing leadership, service, and excellence at the JuneteenthKC Cultural Parade.

The future is bright when today’s leaders invest in tomorrow’s leaders.
