Well, I guess it’s my turn. 💛 You’ve heard from our Academic Coaches, our leadership, our partners, and the people who make DLC what it is. And somewhere behind the social media posts, emails, schedules, partnerships, phone calls, and probably a few fires being put out 😅, there’s me.
I’m Angel Adams, and I serve as Operations Lead for the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center.
I started working with children when I was about 20 years old. What began in Nashville through summer programs and before- and after-school programs grew into nearly two decades of supporting children and families, working alongside public schools, teaching, building nonprofit programs, organizing communities, and eventually learning how to build the systems that hold all of that work together.
I’ve worn a lot of hats since then: strategist, organizer, creative, nonprofit builder- but some of my greatest teachers are standing beside me in this picture: my children, Zela and Zion. They remind me that behind every enrollment form is somebody’s baby. Behind every schedule is a family trying to make life work. Behind every program are people trusting us with something precious.
That’s what operations means to me. Not just making things run, but building the conditions for people to thrive.
I’m honored that one of those places is the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center. 50+ years of a community building something for children they may never live to see grow up. And now I get to help carry it forward. It is an honor to do so.
Thank you, DLC families, for your dedication, care, and open arms. The future is in our hands. Let’s use this momentum to keep building! 🖤
