It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of James Lynn Thompson, past president and current member of TEMSEA.

Mr. Thompson was known for his genuine smile, kind heart, and servant’s spirit. Throughout his lifetime, he dedicated himself to serving others, helping those in need, and making a positive difference in the lives of those around him.

His willingness to serve and his compassion for others will be deeply missed!

We are grateful for the many years of service, friendship, and memories he shared with so many. His legacy of kindness and service will live on in the lives he touched.

Please join us in lifting his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Sir. Your smile, your service, and your servant’s heart will not be forgotten. ❤️🙏

In EMS, we often teach of the signs an symptoms of Autism and/or Intellectual Disabilities but not how to best treat someone experiencing a challenge.

These kits made available by Children's Emergency Care Alliance of Tennessee, could make all the difference.

If your agency does not have sensory kits, please champion conversations with your administration.

💙 Making Emergency Care More Comfortable for Every Child 💙

For children with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), an emergency can be especially overwhelming. Bright lights, loud noises, unfamiliar surroundings, and difficulty communicating can add another layer of stress during an already frightening experience.

That’s why the Children’s Emergency Care Alliance of Tennessee (CECA) is proud to partner with Family Voices of Tennessee to introduce our Sensory Kit Pilot Program. 🧩💙

Each kit provides EMS agencies with tools designed to help reduce sensory overload, support communication, and provide comfort during an emergency.

🎧 Noise-reducing headphones
😎 Sunglasses to help with bright lights
🧸 Sensory toys for comfort and focus
💬 Communication card and marker to help patients express their needs

But the kits are only part of the program. Participating EMS agencies will also receive specialized IDD training, helping responders better understand and support patients with IDD when every moment matters.

Together, the right tools + the right training can help create a better emergency care experience for children and families.

🇺🇸 We Remember - September 11, 2001

TEMSEA joins our nation in remembering the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the extraordinary courage displayed on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years have passed, yet the images and stories from that day remain deeply woven into the history of public safety.

We remember the firefighters, EMS professionals, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, healthcare professionals, military personnel, and countless ordinary citizens who responded when others needed them most. We especially remember the 343 members of the FDNY who gave their lives while answering the call to serve.

They ran toward danger.
They climbed the stairs while others were coming down.
They cared for strangers as though they were family.
And many made the ultimate sacrifice so that others might live.

For those of us entrusted with educating the next generation of EMS professionals, September 11 carries an important responsibility. We must ensure that their stories are not forgotten. Many of the students entering our classrooms today were not yet born on September 11, 2001. It is our responsibility to teach them not only the clinical knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients, but also the meaning of service, courage, compassion, leadership, and sacrifice.

Scripture asks: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)

On September 11, thousands of public safety professionals answered that call!

As EMS educators, providers, and leaders, may we honor them not simply by remembering how they died, but by carrying forward the values by which they served.

We remember. We honor. We teach. We carry their legacy forward.

TEMSEA is excited to facilitate an unforgettable Study Abroad experience in London, England, March 6–13, 2027! This isn’t your typical conference or continuing education course. Participants will have the opportunity to experience healthcare and EMS from an entirely new perspective, including learning about the UK healthcare system, paramedic education, advanced paramedic roles, mental health integration, and disaster preparedness.

And perhaps the most exciting part? Participants will have the opportunity to complete a clinical observation experience alongside a London Ambulance Service, seeing firsthand how emergency care is delivered in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.

The experience will also include visits to St George’s University, a guided medical history walking tour, and opportunities to explore some of London’s most iconic cultural and educational destinations.

As Tennessee’s professional association dedicated to supporting and advancing EMS education, TEMSEA is proud to use our platform to help make important educational resources more accessible to EMS educators, agencies, and providers across the state.
