Board Spotlight: Stacie Prosser đź’š

Women’s Employment Network is proud to spotlight WEN Board Member Stacie Prosser, President and Publisher of the Kansas City Business Journal.

POV: You’re thinking about reaching out to WEN, but then you stop yourself because…
“My situation is complicated.”
“I don’t know if I qualify.”
“I don’t know if WEN helps with this.”
“I don’t want to take a spot from someone else.”
“I’m not unemployed. I just need something better.”

Here’s the truth: you don’t have to have the perfect question before you start exploring WEN. WEN may be a good fit if you are a woman in the Kansas City area, 18 or older, have a high school diploma/GED/equivalent, and are ready to pursue employment, change careers, or grow professionally.

But you do not have to figure that out alone. That’s what Start Here is for.

Start Here gives you a place to ask questions, get evaluated, learn what support may be available to you, and walk away with a clearer idea of what to do next.

We’ve seen women come to WEN thinking they only needed a resume. After talking through their goals, they realized they also needed interview practice, confidence support, and a real job search plan.

Sometimes the thing you think you need is only the beginning. Not sure if WEN is for you?

“What programs does WEN offer in person?”

Our in-person programs are designed to help women in the Kansas City area take practical steps toward employment, career growth, and long-term stability.

That support may include:
Career coaching
Resume support
Interview preparation
Job search strategy
Employment support
A personalized plan for what to do next

But here’s what that really means in everyday life:
It means you don’t have to figure out your next career move alone.
It means someone can help you sort through your options.
It means your resume, interview answers, goals, and confidence can all be worked on together.
It means support can be more than one appointment.

A client might say:
“I came in thinking I needed a job. I left understanding I needed a plan.”

That’s what WEN is here for. The FAQ page is the best first stop if you’re trying to figure out whether in-person support is right for you - https://kcwen.org/get-help/faq

Big news for WEN and the women we serve.

Women’s Employment Network is proud to be named a 2026 United Way of Greater Kansas City Impact 100 partner.

This recognition means so much because Impact 100 supports organizations working to meet critical needs across our region. For WEN, that means continuing to help women move toward economic independence through employment, career support, and wraparound resources.

The unrestricted funding from United Way gives us flexibility to respond where support is needed most — whether that means strengthening programs, removing barriers, expanding access, or helping more women take the next step toward stability.

We are grateful to United Way of Greater Kansas City for recognizing and investing in this work.

Together, we are building a Kansas City where more women have the tools, support, and opportunities to thrive.

“What does WEN do?”

We hear this question a lot, and the honest answer is: We help women move from confusion to a clear next step. Not in a vague, “you got this!” kind of way. In a real, practical way.

That might look like:
✔️ You’ve been out of the work for awhile and don’t know how to explain the gap.
✔️ You’re working, but you know you need something better.
✔️ You have a resume, but Google keeps telling you it should be one way but this video on YouTube says it should be another way.
✔️ You’re applying and being ghosted.
✔️ You know you need help, but you have no idea what kind or even how to ask.

WEN provides free career support, including job search strategy, resume help, interview preparation, coaching, workshops, and even flexible online courses.

We’ve heard clients say: “I didn’t know where to start. I just knew I couldn’t keep doing what I was doing.”

That’s exactly where WEN comes in. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you walk through the door. Start Here is your first step.

It gives you a chance to be evaluated, ask questions, get direction, and feel like you’ve taken one real step toward progress.
