Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay individuals elected to public office in the United States, was born on this day in 1930. His election to San Francisco’s City-County Board in 1977 was a driving force for a better future for q***r communities and politicians. Tragically, Milk was assassinated just one year later. Even though his time in politics was short, his impact was everlasting.
When the world feels like it’s against you and ones you love, remember: “Hope will never be silent.”

Today and every May 17 is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia. If this movement is new to you, we strongly urge you to visit www.May17.org to learn more about this remarkable call to action. For over 20 years, IDAHOBIT has inspired lawmakers and organizations around the world to coordinate awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights violations and highlight the importance of LGBTQIA+ rights work.
This year’s theme “At the heart of democracy” is drawing attention to the reverse direction our civil rights and equalities are heading in this current political climate. Never has it been so critical to stand up and fight back for our right to live how we authentically are.

Rally for Melinda!
The legendary Melinda Ryder is a beacon in Kansas City. With her charm, wit, and talent, she has raised enormous amounts of funds for organizations all over the greater KC area. In the early days of Choral Spectrum, Melinda believed in us enough to graciously emcee our early Gala nights. Now it’s KC’s turn to show up for Melinda! Rally for Melinda is happening Thursday, May 28th at 7:00 at Missie B’s. Don’t miss it!
