Rocky came to us yesterday after being found as a stray, weighing just over 40 pounds. For a Husky his size, he should be closer to 80+.

This is what Paws & Purpose is all about. Giving dogs like Rocky the food, veterinary care and time they need to get healthy and start again.

August 28 from 7-8:30 PM at Hamburger Mary’s KC but plan to get there early to grab dinner/drinks and your bingo cards.

Join us August 28–30 for our Clear the Shelters Fee-Waived Adoption Event, in partnership with NBC and Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

And when we say fee-waived, we mean ALL adoptable pets. No exclusions!

At 3 months old, Chandler should have some very important things on his to-do list:

1. Eat
2. Play
3. Nap
4. Get into things he probably shouldn’t
5. Repeat

Instead, this little German Shepherd came to us as a stray on Wednesday weighing just 19 pounds and needing medical attention.

Our veterinary team found an irritated eye with thick green discharge, hair loss beneath both eyes, and irritation on his belly.

Now we’re adding one more thing to Chandler’s to-do list for now: get better.

We’ll handle the medical care and everything else he needs so that Chandler can focus on the eating, sleeping, growing and general puppy nonsense.

Their adopter met them and basically said, “Yeah…there’s no way I’m leaving one of them behind.”

THAT is how Tater and Tot ended up going home together on Friday.

If you remember these boys, they came to us from a hoarding case back in June. They’re 7-year-old brothers who have spent their whole lives together.

They weren’t considered a bonded pair and could have gone to separate homes. But their adopter met them and decided that wasn’t happening on his watch.

Just like that, two carriers were packed up and both boys headed home.

Sometimes things just work out exactly the way you hope they will. Happy tails, Tater and Tot. ❤️

We NEED you to see this adoption update. 🥹

Billie has settled beautifully into our family and made it very clear that her absolute favorite person is her big brother, Buster Rhymes.

Her family told us, “Buster took her in wholeheartedly from the very beginning. He cleans her, plays with her, watches over her and happily lets her curl up as close to him as physically possible...We’re so grateful she found her way to us. Crossroads may have been the name she had while waiting for her family, but she is very much Billie Eilish now—and she is deeply loved.”

Oh boy. Last night’s storm really took “ruff weather” a little too seriously. 🫠

Last night’s storms caused significant damage around our shelter, including a fallen tree that damaged the fence between two of our dog yards. For now, that leaves us with just one small yard where our dogs can enjoy some much-needed outdoor time.

There’s still time to register for our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) Clinic happening this Saturday, August 22!

And an important reminder: You do NOT have to live in Wyandotte County to participate! This clinic is open to anyone, regardless of where you live. If you’re caring for community or feral cats, you’re welcome to register.

- Saturday, August 22 with drop-off beginning at 8:00 AM
- 5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104
- $40 per cat with a $10 deposit required at sign-up

Each cat will receive:
• Spay/neuter surgery
• FVRCP vaccine
• Rabies vaccine
• Ear-tipping
• Pain injection

PLEASE NOTE: This clinic is for community and feral cats only and is not intended for domesticated/pet cats. All cats MUST arrive in a humane trap.
