Reminder: our FREE drive-thru vaccine clinic is happening tomorrow Saturday, October 24th!

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., we’ll be hosting a free drive-thru vaccine clinic for dogs at HSGKC. We’ll be providing DAPPv, Bordetella and rabies vaccines for up to 200 dogs, completely FREE. You can also add a microchip for just $10!

These clinics usually have a big turnout, so we highly recommend arriving early. We’ll continue until 2 p.m. or until we’ve vaccinated 200 dogs, whichever comes first.

Then from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., come see us at Subaru of Olathe for an adoption event featuring HSGKC pets looking for their new families.

There are no residency restrictions for the vaccine clinic, so no matter where you’re coming from, if your dog needs vaccines, we want to help!

A huge thank you to our friends at Subaru of Olathe for supporting this event and helping us care for pets throughout our community.

For National Make a Dog’s Day, we decided Emmy deserved a little extra time outside of her kennel.

She got to run around, enjoy some treats, pose for a few photos, soak up some attention, and spend time with one of her best shelter friends, Chewie.

Just a couple of hours after we filmed this, Chewie was adopted!

Now we’re hoping Emmy’s turn is next.

Emmy is 2 years old, loves having dog friends, and would do best in a home without cats. She’s ready for a lot more days like this, only this time with a family of her own.

Come meet Emmy and help us make her day. hsgkc.org/adopt

Quick heads up about a couple of temporary schedule changes this week as we get ready for our FREE Subaru Vaccine Clinic on Saturday, October 24!

Urgent Care will be closed on Friday, October 23, and the shelter will be closed on Saturday, October 24.

These closures will give our team time to prepare for Saturday’s clinic, where we’ll be providing free vaccines to dogs in our community.

Thank you for understanding, and we hope to see you at the vaccine clinic!

We’re hiring!

HSGKC is looking for a bilingual Client Services Representative to join our veterinary clinic. If you speak both English and Spanish, love animals, and genuinely enjoy helping people, this could be a really great fit.

Being able to communicate with our Spanish-speaking clients is a huge part of this role, so fluency in both English and Spanish is required.

Veterinary experience is definitely a plus, but we’re happy to train the right person who is kind, dependable, organized, and ready to jump into a busy clinic.

This position is around 32 hours a week with a set, consistent schedule, so you’ll know what your regular workweek looks like. Pay is $14 to $16/hour, plus benefits including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) matching and employee discounts.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to meet you! Send your resume or reach out with questions to [email protected].

¡Estamos contratando!

We are completely out of food in our Pet Food Pantry, and Emmy is here to show you just how empty those shelves are.

Did you know our Pet Food Pantry is donor-supported? Every bag and can of food we give to families in our community comes from donations.

If you’re able to help, please consider sending dog or cat food through our Amazon Wishlist at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/JKCPBOJ59PV9?ref_=wl_share

Even one bag can make a difference for a family that needs a little extra help feeding their pet.

If you can’t donate right now, please share this post. You never know who might have an extra bag of food they can send our way.

And while Emmy is helping us spread the word, she’s also looking for a home of her own. She is available for adoption at HSGKC. Learn more about her at hsgkc.org/adopt

Thank you for helping us restock the pantry and support pets and people in our community!

Our Día de los Mu***os ofrenda is back.

Each year, we set aside this space to honor and remember the people and pets who have touched our lives, and once again, we are inviting our community to be part of it.

If there is someone you would like to honor, you are welcome to add a photo, name, note, or small memento to the ofrenda.

You can bring your item to us or send your submission to [email protected].

We love seeing this space fill up each year with the faces, names, and memories of those who are still so deeply loved.

Sometimes the dog you see in a kennel is not the dog you get to know outside of it.

Boogie had been showing signs of kennel stress, so we decided to give him a full day in our admin office to decompress and just be a dog for a while.

And little by little, the real Boogie started to come out. We got to see the peanut butter lover, the professional sniffer, the toy enthusiast, the kiss giver, and the very sleepy office dog.

Sometimes a dog just needs a little space, a little quiet and a chance to show you who they really are.

And in Boogie’s case, that chance came at exactly the right time.

He was adopted the very next day!

Starsky is home.

Starsky came to HSGKC this past Wednesday unable to walk, with a badly swollen front paw. We were worried he may have been hit by a car, but thankfully X-rays showed no broken bones. His leg was placed in a splint to give it some support while it heals.

We shared a video of Starsky that same day hoping someone would recognize him, and more than 1,000 of you shared it. His owner saw the post and came first thing to get him.

This is exactly why we ask you to share lost and found pets. You never know when your share is going to be the one that reaches the right person.

Welcome home, Starsky.
