Nominate a World Citizen of the Year! Greater Kansas City People to People members are invited to help broaden the circle of voices shaping this year’s KC World Citizen of the Year Award.

In the past, nominations were gathered only from previous award recipients and executive directors of partner organizations. This year, the United Nations Association of Greater Kansas City (GKCUNA) is opening the process to our wider international minded community—and that includes YOU.

About GKCUNA: The United Nations Association of Greater Kansas City is the local chapter of UNA USA, working to promote the values and mission of the United Nations here in our metro area. GKCUNA hosts educational programs, supports global cooperation, and encourages civic engagement around peace, justice, human rights, and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The KC World Citizen of the Year Selection Committee, made up of past award recipients, is now accepting nominations for this year’s honoree. The award will be presented at the Kansas City Mayor’s UN Day Dinner on Monday, Oct. 26.

Nominations must be received by July 20, 2026.
Nominees must:
• Reside in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area
• Have made substantial and continuing contributions to the quality of life in our community
• Promote international peace, justice, and global community in the spirit of the United Nations
• Be an individual (not an organization)
• Preferably have done this work outside of a paid career role
• Not be a current elected or appointed official, nor a member of their staff (A small stipend for project work does not disqualify a nominee.)

Please submit a brief bio of the nominee (150 words or less) to unagkc@gmail.

Let’s help recognize someone whose global vision strengthens our local community. Your nomination could shine a light on a remarkable Kansas Citian whose work deserves to be celebrated.

Virtual Pass (Temporary 4 Day Access). The Fort Leavenworth Online Visitor Registration Portal (https://pass.aie.army.mil/steps/terms_of_use) is the most efficient way to access post if you do not yet have an LAC card or other Department of Defense (DoD)-issued ID card.

Sponsors may request a temporary pass valid for up to 4 days. Requests must be submitted no sooner than 14 days before the first day of access, and sponsors are encouraged to submit them at least 7 days in advance.

When requesting the temporary pass from the portal, select the Visitor Pass (the Special Event Pass requires a code). Complete the online application for EACH individual person to include a Social Security number and driver’s license or passport information. Individuals without a REAL ID are not permitted to register for a temporary pass to Fort Leavenworth. Non-U.S. citizens must contact the Visitors Center at Fort Leavenworth.

You will receive a text message notifying you that your pass is approved or whether you must instead visit the Visitor Control Center in person. Once approved, the virtual pass is electronically linked to your driver’s license in the security system—no physical pass is issued. Your driver’s license is required at the front gate for access.

For full details, see Fort Leavenworth Gate Information | Visitor Control Center (https://home.army.mil/leavenworth/about/visitor-information/gate-information).
