What is the GKCLCA? The GKCLCA (Greater Kansas City Lactation Consultant Association) is an affiliate chapter of the United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA). The GKCLCA provides networking opportunities with others who are interested in the field of lactation.
What is an IBCLC? An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a health care professional who special
izes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. The scope of practice of IBCLCs focuses on providing education and management to promote and support breastfeeding mothers and families. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). IBCLCs work in a wide variety of health care settings, including hospitals, pediatric offices, public health clinics, and private practice. The purposes and objectives of this chapter are:
-to provide networking opportunities for IBCLCs and others in the field of lactation
-to share knowledge gained through research and professional experience
-to build and sustain a local association that advocates for IBCLCs
-to enhance the reputation, image, and credibility of IBCLCs and USLCA in a responsible and professional manner
-to serve as a continuing education resource to further the professional growth of IBCLCs

GKCLCA membership is open to all who support and promote breastfeeding. You do not need to be a member of USLCA to join this local chapter. You do not need to be an IBCLC to join.*
