Yesterday, we were honored to host our 9/11 Day of Service event. First, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Washington High School ROTC Program for partnering with us. Their commitment was truly inspiring, with more than 200 cadets participating in and leading service projects throughout the day.
We also had the privilege of attending Washington High School’s ROTC ceremony, where we joined in remembering and honoring all those affected by the events of September 11, 2001. The cadets’ performance and tribute served as a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience demonstrated on that day.
Throughout the event, participants contributed to several meaningful service projects. These included assembling hygiene kits, which will be donated to the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department (KCKFD), and protein kits, which will be distributed to members of the veteran community. Youth participants also took part in a hands-on challenge by adding weight to backpacks and running stadium stairs, simulating the physical demands firefighters faced as they climbed the stairs of the World Trade Center in their efforts to save lives.
We would also like to express our appreciation to all of our community partners who joined us and helped make this event possible. Your support, dedication, and collaboration created a meaningful experience for our youth while honoring the spirit of service and remembrance that defines this day.
