Last week, the Cass County Multidisciplinary Team came together at the Harrisonville Police Department to learn, collaborate, and strengthen our collective response to child abuse and neglect cases throughout the county.

Thank you to our co-presenters from the Children’s Division, Cass County Sheriffs Office, Cass County Juvenile Office, Cass County Prosecutor’s Office, and Children’s Mercy Hospital.

A strong multidisciplinary team response is essential to our work. By bringing together professionals from law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, medical care, mental health, and advocacy, we can coordinate services, minimize additional trauma, and help ensure that every child and family receives a comprehensive, compassionate response.

September is Su***de Prevention Month—a time to raise awareness, encourage honest conversations and remind our community that hope and help are available. 💙💜

For children who have experienced abuse, the effects of trauma can include PTSD, depression, anxiety, isolation and thoughts of self-harm. At the Child Protection Center, we help children and families understand these responses and connect them with specialized, trauma-focused mental health services. With compassionate support and effective treatment, healing is possible.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis or thoughts of su***de, call or text 988 for free, confidential support 24/7.

On National Nonprofit Day, we celebrate the incredible nonprofit partners who stand alongside the Child Protection Center in keeping children safe and strengthening families throughout Kansas City.

We are especially grateful for Missouri Network Against Child Abuse missouri_naca, our statewide champion for Missouri’s Child Advocacy Centers, and for every organization that collaborates, shares resources, supports families and helps ensure children are heard, believed and surrounded by care.

Protecting children takes all of us. Thank you for your partnership—and for working every day to create safer, stronger communities for every child. 💙

Last week, CPC staff joined our Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) partners from the Independence Police Department, Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City Police Department, Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, and Jackson County Family Court at the Dallas Crimes Against Children Conference (DCAC).

Thanks to funding from the National Children's Alliance (NCA) and Children's Services Fund of Jackson County, our group attended sessions focused on enhancing skills, strengthening collaboration, and promoting MDT wellbeing.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from national experts and bring valuable knowledge back to our community as we continue working together to protect children and support families. 💙

CPC was pleased to join Mattie Rhodes Center at their all-staff meeting at their Cultural Center to provide Mandated Reporter and CSEC 101 (Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children) trainings.

Rebecca Ashley, Prevention Specialist, led the Mandated Reporter training, while Olivia Markey, CSEC Specialist, presented CSEC 101. Both sessions equipped staff with valuable information and resources to help identify, respond to, and support youth who may be at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Mattie Rhodes and their dedicated team as we work together to promote the safety and well-being of children and families in our community.

Last week we were reminded what a simple act of kindness can mean.

A heartfelt thank you to Pastor Paul, Pastor Zach, interns Maggie and Mattie, and to the wonderful congregation at Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village for preparing and serving an appreciation lunch on Wednesday to our Child Protection Center staff.

We are incredibly grateful for your generosity, your time, and your encouragement. Your recent grant award to support our mission, paired with today’s thoughtful lunch, is a powerful reminder that you are investing not only in the care and healing of children and families in our community, but also in the people who do this important work every day.

Thank you for being such an incredible community partner and for continually showing up with compassion, generosity, and support. We are truly thankful for Village Presbyterian Church and everyone who made today so special. ❤️
