Young Latino Professionals of Kansas City

Young Latino Professionals of Kansas City Building community. Advancing careers. Empowering Latino leaders. Join us as we grow juntos—professionally and personally

We connect, develop, and uplift Latino professionals through networking, mentorship, and purposeful programming. Young Latino Professionals (YLP) is a network of more than 350 passionate individuals from all backgrounds and various industries who come together to shape their communities while developing as leaders. YLP was the brainchild the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Collaborative, a 501(c)(3)

non-profit organization that works to create opportunities that may have been previously unexplored by young Latino professionals in Greater Kansas City. Through their efforts, our organization was formed to connect leaders and positively impact communities. YLP provides opportunities for young leaders to engage with like-minded peers through social and professional networking, philanthropic outreach and professional development. Our organization recognizes that Greater Kansas City’s professional community is constantly growing and so are we! New ideas and members are always welcome in YLP.

⚽️ We asked people at Fan Fest who would win and what the score would be…

The majority said 2-0.

The final score? 2-0. 😂🔮

We’re not saying YLP manifested it… but we’re not NOT saying it either. 👀⚽️

Mentorship Program Experiences: Edgar Palacios

We’re excited to highlight Edgar J. Palacios, Founder, President & CEO of the Latinx Education Collaborative (LEC) and Revolución Educativa (RevED), whose work has helped create greater opportunities for Latino students, educators, and families across our community.

A nationally recognized advocate for Latino representation in education, Edgar is a Certified Executive Coach, Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach, and dedicated community leader. His commitment to leadership development, civic engagement, and empowering future generations has earned him numerous honors, including Ingram’s 40 Under Forty and the Urban Hero Award.

When asked why others should consider becoming a mentor, Edgar shared:

“Mentorship has played a meaningful role in my own personal and professional journey, and I’ve learned that some of the greatest growth happens through shared experiences and honest conversations. Serving as a mentor is an opportunity to invest in emerging leaders, expand your own perspective, and help strengthen our community. The impact often goes both ways, and I’ve found that mentoring is just as rewarding for the mentor as it is for the mentee.”

Interested in making a difference and building meaningful connections? Join us at our upcoming informational event to learn more about becoming a mentor and the impact you can have on the next generation of leaders.

Different backgrounds. Different communities. Finding common ground over coffee. ☕🤝🏾

One of the reasons we partnered with Kinship Cafe for Un Verano con Café is because we believe connection starts with conversation.

Kansas City is home to incredible communities, cultures, and stories. This event is about creating a space where people can come together, build relationships, celebrate culture, and learn from one another.

Coffee has always brought people to the table. We’re simply creating the space for those conversations to happen.

The best way to understand the impact of our mentorship program is to hear from those who have experienced it. Meet Xavier Salas, a previous mentee in our mentorship program, and learn about the impact that our mentorship program had on him.

“I did not always see myself as a ‘leader’.

As a proud Chicano, first-generation college student from Kansas City, I grew up learning how to navigate spaces that were not always built with people like me in mind. My passion for mental health, especially within the Latinx community, comes from witnessing, up close, what happens when people don’t have access to care that truly understands them.

Today, I’m a licensed social worker serving predominantly Latinx youth, and I carry those experiences with me into every room I enter. But stepping into leadership? That felt like a different challenge.

The Young Latino Professionals mentorship program changed that for me.

This program did more than offer guidance; it offered affirmation. It placed me in a space where my voice was not just heard but valued. My mentor pushed me to think bigger, speak up more, and recognize that my lived experiences are not limitations but leadership tools. Through this experience, I learned that leadership is not about having all the answers. It’s about showing up authentically, advocating for your community, and creating space for others to do the same.

What impacted me most was being surrounded by other Latinx professionals who are driven, resilient, and committed to uplifting our communities. There’s something powerful about not having to explain where you come from and about being understood without translation.

Because of this program, I no longer second-guess whether I belong in leadership spaces. I walk into them knowing I do.

I would recommend this mentorship program to any YLP member who is ready to grow, be challenged, and be seen. If you’ve ever questioned your place in professional spaces or wondered if your story matters, then this program will remind you that it does. And more than that, it will help you use your story to lead.”
