We hope this message finds you well and that the school year is off to a great start. Scholar Smarts Educational Systems is excited to extend an invitation to your high school juniors and seniors for our upcoming Fall Workshop: Essay Writing for College Scholarships!

Event Details:

Date: Sundays- Oct. 8, 22, & 29th 2023
Time: 2:00-4:30pm
Location: UMKC Student Center, 4th Floor, Rockhill Rd
This workshop is designed to provide valuable tips and resources to students who are eager to make their scholarship applications stand out in a competitive landscape. We understand that many students face challenges such as anxiety, fear of award rejection, procrastination, missed deadlines, and difficulty in comprehending essay prompts. Our workshop aims to address these issues and equip students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

Important Requirements: To ensure the success of this workshop, we have important requirements for participants:

Eligibility: Students must be High School Juniors or Seniors. Must live in Metro Kansas City.
Academic Criteria: Students should have a minimum GPA of 2.5, a strong record of English coursework, and above-average attendance.
Commitment: Participants must be committed to successfully completing mini-essay assignments and attending all three workshop sessions.
Registration: Registration is required to attend the workshop. Deadline is Oct. 2, 2023, 8:00pm.
Application: As part of the registration process, students must:
Upload a writing sample of their personal goals (150-300 words).
Upload an unofficial transcript.
Pay a registration incentive fee of $35 online during registration uploads. This fee is refundable if the workshop is completed successfully. Cancellations and fee refund permitted up to September 18, 2023.
Students accepted will receive confirmation and agreement no later than Oct. 2, 2023.
Transportation: Students must have their own transportation to the workshop location at UMKC Student Center, 4th Floor, Rockhill Rd.

1) Honeywell Black Achievers Society Engineering Education Scholarship
Honeywell offers two $5,000 annual, renewable scholarships exclusively for African American students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science.
Eligible students must graduate from the following schools: Bishop Ward High School, Center High School, Grandview High School, Ruskin High School, University Academy, Cristo Rey High School, any high school that is part of the Kansas City, MO Public School District (KCPS), any high school that is part of the Raytown School District, or any high school in the Kansas City, KS Public School District (USD #500). Members of Big Brothers & Big Sisters and Boys & Girls Club are also eligible to apply.
Students currently at a community college in the greater Kansas City area, pursuing a degree at an accredited 4 – year institution in any of the areas listed below can also apply.
Student eligible for this scholarship must meet the following:
Cumulative GPA of 3.5 (unweighted)
African American student pursuing bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science (mechanical, industrial, electrical, chemical, aeronautical engineering or computer science)
Must be accepted at a 4-year ABET college or university (Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology, Inc.)
Special consideration will be given to students attending a Historically Black College or University
Renewable 4 years if student maintains 3.0 GPA

have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (unweighted) in their senior year,
plan to pursue a manufacturing or trade degree (Associate in Applied Science or certificate trade program), and
must graduate from a high school in the Greater Kansas City area.
Community service and extracurricular activities are a plus.

1) Each year the Black Achievers Society awards scholarships to area high school students. This year we are proud to announce the availability of several $1,000 scholarships for African American graduating seniors with a cumulative 3.7 or higher grade point average.

Students must attend a high school in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area to be eligible. We encourage students to apply who best meet the following scholarship criteria:

academic achievement

extracurricular activities

community/civic involvement
