CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: Exceptional Humans

Someone mentioned this client to me in passing. I decided to do more research and look into their website and immediately knew I wanted to meet with them. I am so happy I did because the work they are doing in Kansas City is going to change so many lives! The team is as extraordinary as their mission. My favorite type of post, client spotlight! The work my clients do should be recognized and I am blessed to work with such amazing organizations!

Today's spotlight is Blue Springs South Football Booster Club

Mission:
"We are a group of local parents, teachers, and leaders who recognize the importance of athletics and the need for partnership with the school. Our mission is to support the Jaguar Football Program. We encourage the students, enrich the athletes, and enhance the program. We provide financial support from fundraising, sponsorships, and donations. Through community service opportunities and carefully chosen leadership, we prove to our students that character development is an essential value of being a Jaguar."

I am looking forward to attending some Friday night lights this season!

Happy Friday!👋🏽

I wasn’t able to do “Coffee Chats with Rooted Purpose” this week because I have been so busy with clients and potential clients. (Yay!🎉). But, I wanted to be sure I had the opportunity to answer some of the questions submitted!

Question:
Pt. 1 What is it you like about grant writing? ✍🏼

Pt. 2 Isn’t it the same thing over and over?😵‍💫

Answer pt 1: As a grant writer, I find immense fulfillment in crafting funding proposals that have the potential to bring about positive change. It's a process that involves delving into the heart of a project, understanding its impact, and translating that passion into persuasive words on paper. The research and dedication poured into each proposal are driven by the belief that these projects can make a difference in people's lives. Knowing that my work plays a part in empowering organizations and individuals to achieve their goals fills me with a sense of purpose and gratitude for being part of something bigger than myself.❤️

Answer pt 2: I understand why you would think that! I used to think the same thing. But I get to work with many nonprofits (and partner with other grant contractors) that are doing such a wide variety of things… Let’s just say it is FAR from ‘boring’. ✨

I had a client ask me today, “Why did you choose grant writing? I HATE grant writing.” 🙅🏽‍♀️

Without even realizing it, she answered my question for me. There are so many nonprofit workers who LOVE their work and their mission but feel absolutely stranded in the world of grant writing. I chose grant writing because I can offer you a life raft so you can focus on strengthening your programs and doing what you love. I work with clients whose mission matters to me and whose impact has a Rooted Purpose. I carry the passion you have for your organization and we work together to make it a reality. It was an easy choice and it is worth the hard work put in to make it a reality! ✍🏼

Common mistake #️⃣1️⃣: Not having clear funding goals.

When my clients first approach me they often know what they NEED but are unsure what to focus on first. If you don’t have clear grant goals when applying to grants then you will not get funded. The funders want to know you have a well thought up strategic plan and that their money will go far/reach as many lives as possible. (That is what most nonprofits want too!). Before beginning the grant search we develop a clear understanding of what exactly we are hoping to fund in the next 12-18 months. Breaking our projects down helps us (and our funders) digest everything it is that needs to get done. When there is a plan in place, it is more attainable. After the project plan is clear, the grant search begins!✍🏼

Fun fact:

I went to college in Montana and interned grant writing for a few nonprofits while I was there. A big goal of mine is to work alongside a Montana nonprofit for that reason! 406 has a special place in my heart!🏔️

This fall is stacking up to be a very busy grant season and I am so excited! September ends up being one of the busiest times of year for LOI submissions and grant applications. That means we begin preparation now so we can press that 'submit' button with ease. I will be living by my planner until further notice. What do you do to prepare for grant season? 📑👩🏼‍💻
