Working in afterschool means you never quite know what your day will bring, and that's part of the fun! One minute you're helping with homework, the next you're checking out a cart full of plastic groceries. Along the way, you're building relationships, creating a safe place for kids, and making their afternoons a whole lot more fun.

Camp Fire Heartland is hiring! We're looking for caring, energetic, and dependable people to join our afterschool teams at various schools and in various positions across the Kansas City area.

🌋 Learning has never been so explosive!
Our campers became junior volcanologists as they explored the fascinating world of volcanoes. They learned about the different types of volcanoes, where they're found around the world, what causes eruptions, and how volcanic explosions shape our planet.

Then it was time to put science into action! Campers built their own papier-mâché volcanoes and brought them to life with a classic baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring eruption. There were plenty of smiles, excitement, and "WOW!" moments as each volcano erupted.

At Camp Fire Heartland, we believe the best learning happens when kids can create, experiment, ask questions, and discover the world through hands-on experiences.

One bracelet turned into dozens!

This week, our campers learned how to make paracord bracelets, and what started as a new activity quickly became a camp favorite. After learning the technique, they couldn't stop creating, making colorful bracelets, keychains, and gifts for friends and family.

More than just a craft, paracord weaving helped campers practice patience, perseverance, confidence, problem-solving, and teamwork. They encouraged one another, celebrated successes, and discovered that trying something new can lead to a skill they'll use long after camp ends.
