District 9,
When I was elected this last year, I didn’t know what to expect. Not with this position, not with the recent redistricting, and not even with myself and the ability to step in to fulfill this role and all that it entailed. Soon after I was elected, I quickly realized that all of these were not dependent solely on me. Any success that I had as a trustee was a direct reflection of you all- as students, as leaders, or as humans who genuinely care for one another.
If you attended Annual Session, you may recall I kept returning to a quote during my speech and caucus answers:
“We stand on the shoulders of all those who came before us.”
That statement is unequivocally true, but it’s equally as important to recognize that we also rise higher because of all those around us.
And that is every single one of you. Every student here in District 9 stands not only for yourselves, but for those you serve. Throughout my term, in every conversation and every interaction I had with my fellow students, I witnessed the passion, drive, and leadership that make ASDA what it is. Your commitment is what drives this district forward, and I could not be more proud to have been a part of that.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to serve this last year. Whether I have met you personally or not, I am beyond proud of each of you. You all have made this experience one of the greatest honors of my life and I will always keep it close to my heart.
As I transition into my new role within ASDA, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my cabinet and chapter leadership for all of your work in progressing this district forward. I also want to wish my successor, Will Alexander, the absolute best as he steps into the role of your new trustee. I have full confidence that he will do an incredible job in continuing to advance our culture and vision for the district.
Though I no longer serve as your trustee, I will always be here to support you with whatever you may need. Please, if you need anything at all, do not hesitate to reach out.
Always remember, D9 is SO FINE!
Thank you,
Alexon Tiem
