Safer neighborhoods are at the heart of LINC's work! Children do better in school when they feel safe, and families thrive when their communities are stable.

Since 2023, LINC has been part of KC 360, a multi-organizational movement led by KC Common Good that brings community stakeholders together every Thursday to build collaborative strategies against violent crime. This week, Senator Barbara Anne Washington joined the meetingโ€”a reminder that this work reaches all the way to the state level.

Every voice at that table matters, and LINC is glad to be one of them. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

The families LINC serves show up in national data whether we name them or not. ๐ŸŽ’ That's why we pay close attention every year when the Annie E. Casey Foundation releases the KIDS COUNT Data Book.

Missouri scored above the national average this year and ranked 28th in the nation, with real strength in economic well-being. But the report flags two concerns we can't ignore: children losing health coverage as federal policy shifts put Medicaid gains at risk, and more than 70% of Missouri fourth and eighth graders still not proficient in reading or math. ๐Ÿ“š

Data like this shapes the conversations about funding, policy, and the investments that determine whether kids in our community get what they need to thrive. โœจ

Sports can change the trajectory of a young person's life! ๐Ÿ…

However, for a lot of young people, the difference between playing competitive sports and never getting the chance comes down to access. LINC's partnership with Trilogy Sports & Fitness, Inc., supported by DM Injury Law, is about closing that gap.

Recently, students at Foreign Language Academy in Kansas City Public Schools trained with Trilogy founder and master elite level trainer Corey Phillips and his team to get a serious look at what it takes to compete at the high school and college level. LINC Athletic Director Jason Ervin wants to expand the program across LINC's middle school programs, because the doors that sports can open are worth the work it takes to walk through them. ๐Ÿ’ช

Connecting Kansas City kids to opportunities that can shape the rest of their lives is what we do. Read the full story and watch the video: kclinc.org/linc-and-trilogy-sports-prepare-youth-for-higher-sports-opportunities/

Caring Communities support meaningful experiences for people of every age! ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿ‘ต

Recently, seniors at Palestine Senior Center - LINC Caring Communities enjoyed a special performance by local actor Rickey Peters, who portrayed abolitionist and community leader James Forten.

Moments like this create vital opportunities to learn, connect, and engage that strengthen our communities. โœจ

"Don't let them tell you it's too late. Don't let fear convince you that you're not capable."

Those words from graduate Victoria Ojeda captured the spirit of this year's Missouri Star School graduation ceremony. ๐ŸŽ“

For these graduates, earning a high school equivalency diploma represents perseverance, determination, and a belief that new opportunities are always possible. Some balanced coursework while raising children. Others worked toward career goals while overcoming significant challenges. All of them showed up, put in the work, and reached an important milestone.

This year's ceremony was especially meaningful as it brought together graduates from both Missouri Star School and LINC's Missouri Work Assistance (MWA) program for the first combined celebration. Together, they reminded us that success is not defined by where a journey begins, but by the courage to keep moving forward.

Congratulations to this incredible group of graduates! We are honored to celebrate your achievement and excited for what comes next. โœจ

Strong communities start with informed residents! ๐Ÿ’ก

Today, members of the LINC team participated in Deputy Registrar training at the Kansas City Election Board as part of our ongoing commitment to civic engagement and community awareness.

Throughout the summer, LINC Caring Communities Coordinators will be helping Kansas City residents access voter registration resources and stay informed about upcoming election dates and ballot issues. ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

Weโ€™re proud to support opportunities that help residents connect with the issues that shape the places they live, work, and raise their families.

Strong communities are shaped by the people who call them home. ๐Ÿก

As conversations continue about the future of the former McCune site, community members are invited to attend an upcoming town hall hosted by Jackson County Executive Phil LeVota to learn more and share their perspectives.

Community engagement is essential to creating places where children, families, and neighbors can thrive. We encourage those interested in the future of this property to take part in the conversation!
