🌟WATER QUALITY TECHNICIAN SPOTLIGHT🌟

Meet Chris! 🧪 Favorite tool of the trade: His fixed-volume, 1000 µL micropipette.
“It does one thing, and it does it very well.” 🎯

🌊 Water Quality Fun Fact:
The carbonate buffer system that maintains pH in seawater is the same set of chemicals that helps maintain the pH of our blood! One of its major components is sodium bicarbonate—otherwise known as baking soda! 🧂

Thank you, Chris, and all of our water quality techs, for the important work you do every day! 💙

🌟 WATER QUALITY TECHNICIAN SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Meet Rebekah! 👋 Her fun water quality fact: she likes to guess colorimetry concentrations before reading the sample—and she’s getting pretty decent at it! 🔬🎨

A little science, a little competition, and a whole lot of water quality appreciation. 💙

📚 AALSO Water Quality Certification: A Tradition of Excellence 💧

Did you know the AALSO Water Quality Certification exam began in 2016? The first exam offered at an AALSO Symposium and Workshops took place in Denver, Colorado. Before that, the Water Quality Committee administered the exam to a group of water quality technicians to help test and refine the certification.

Just like the Life Support System (LSS) exams, the Water Quality Certification exam is held to the same high standards of quality, knowledge, and professionalism. AALSO is committed to maintaining the integrity and rigor of all its certification exams.

So, if you’ve earned your Level 3 Water Quality certification, congratulations! 🎉 That accomplishment represents a significant level of knowledge and expertise—and is something that very few professionals have achieved.

We’re proud to recognize the dedication, hard work, and continued growth of water quality professionals across our field! 🌊🔬

🌟 WATER QUALITY TECHNICIAN SPOTLIGHT🌟

Meet Katy Terry!

🔬 Katy’s fun water quality fact: Over 90% of beneficial bacteria are attached to substrates like enclosure acrylic, sand, décor, and filter media—not floating around in the water!

From daily testing to advancing the science behind aquatic systems, water quality professionals are essential to maintaining healthy environments for the animals in our care.

AALSO is excited to see this field continue to grow alongside the incredible advancements happening in water quality testing methods and techniques. Thank you, Katy, and all the water quality technicians for the work you do! 💙🌊

🌟 WATER QUALITY TECHNICIAN SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Meet Quinn Greninger! This Water Quality Technician Appreciation Week, we’re shining a spotlight on the people and tools that help ensure accurate, efficient water quality testing. 💧🔬

We asked Quinn about his favorite tool of the trade, and he chose the Gallery Automatic Discrete Analyzer. His favorite feature? The ability to automate many tests that have traditionally been performed by hand—making it an especially valuable tool for facilities analyzing a high volume of systems.

Thank you, Quinn, and all of our water quality technicians for the expertise, precision, and dedication you bring to the job every day! 💙

🌟WATER QUALITY TECHNICIAN SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Meet Hannah Mewhirter!! What excites Hannah most about being a Water Quality Technician? Turning data into a story.

“Taking the myriad of individual datapoints we generate and creating a story with trends over time. And getting other people excited by data!”

For Hannah, it’s about more than collecting numbers—it’s about understanding patterns, anticipating what’s next, and using data to stay ahead of changing water quality conditions. By familiarizing herself with seasonal trends in makeup water, she can anticipate changes like incoming salinity when rainfall drops, rather than simply reacting to them.

As we celebrate Water Quality Technician Week, we’re grateful for the expertise, curiosity, and dedication of water quality technicians like Hannah. Thank you for turning data into insights and helping us better understand and protect our water! 💧👏
