Kansas City Food Not Bombs

Kansas City Food Not Bombs Free hot meals served at Independence Ave & Monroe Ave (Outside the Family Dollar in NKC) every Sunday at 4pm. Solidarity, not charity.

We believe food is a human right, not a privilege. Our mission is to recover and share free vegan or vegetarian food with the public. The Kansas City, MO Chapter of Food Not Bombs shares meals, groceries, clothing and other goods to the community without restriction on a weekly basis. We also provide food and supplies to people participating in occupations, strikes, marches and other demonstration

Food is a human right. Food Not Bombs is an all-volunteer movement that recovers food that would otherwise be discarded, and shares free vegan and vegetarian meals with the hungry in over 1,000 cities in 65 countries in protest to war, poverty, and destruction of the environment. We are run by the community, for the community. We are not a charity but dedicated to taking nonviolent direct action. Our movement has no headquarters or positions of leadership and we use the process of consensus to make decisions.

What if the real resilience is the friends we made along the way? We are still sharing free hot vegan meals with our neighbors every Sunday, and we couldn’t do it without the tremendous support we get from our community. Those strong ties between each other help us bounce back and adapt after disruptions. Come join us any Sunday. Swipe to see a map of our new serving spot; it’s just around the corner from the spot we maintained for 10 years! Hope to see you soon!

Another case of repression of people exercising their first amendment rights. Friends, the state would like for us all to be scared of gathering together in public. The state is scared that we might develop trust and strong ties together, as well as figure out how to meet our own needs outside of capitalism, if we’re allowed to get together and share resources. We do not need permits to exist in public!

Homelessness is NOT a crime! These sweeps destroy people’s lives, causing people to lose all their belongings, including medication, cold weather gear, mobility aids, and important personal items. Stop the sweeps!

Join us at city hall on Tuesday in solidarity with our unhoused neighbors! Another camp sweep is coming on Wednesday and homeless people deserve to exist and survive in peace. Homelessness is not a crime!

Great article from The Pitch Kansas City about the recent disruption to our meal.

Food service continues for FNBKC. // Photo by Kylie Volavongsa On Jan. 4, handcuffed in the back of a KCPD vehicle, Wolfgang was thinking only about baby formula. He was concerned, in the moment, about a mother from the neighborhood who’d become one of many familiar faces. She was one of many indi...

1/11/2026 - We've seen a LOT of interest in new people wanting to volunteer. We are going to have plenty of help today!

We reccomend you hold off from volunteering today, to keep our mealshare running smoothly and to keep down crowding.

If you want food, show up! Everybody eats!

Thank you all for your solidarity and support.

On Sunday, January 4, KCPD arrested two members of Food Not Bombs KC during our weekly meal share on trespassing charges. KCPD forced all FNBKC volunteers to leave the area and dispersed anyone arriving for our meal, under threat of further arrests. The police cited a loitering ordinance, alleging that members were blocking the public sidewalk.

For over 13 years, Food Not Bombs KC has been sharing 60 - 100 hot meals, groceries, and other supplies freely in the same public area on the sidewalk. Last Sunday was the first time we were unable to do so. Despite police disruption, we distributed what food and supplies we could at another location, though many of our neighbors were shooed away by police presence and were unable to find us.

We intend to continue sharing with the community, as dozens of our neighbors rely on the food we share every week. Food is a human right. We have the right to public spaces, and the right to demonstration.
We have covered the bond for our volunteers who were arrested during our meal share.

Any support you can share will help us cover any additional fines, legal costs, or more bonds paid should KCPD continue to escalate.
