They say it takes a village to raise a child, but for foster parents, that village is often more of a wish than a reality.

Right now, we have a local family pouring everything they have into loving kids who have experienced the unimaginable. They are doing the hard, beautiful, exhausting work of healing hearts.

We are looking for one volunteer to step into the gap. This isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about showing up once a month with a meal, a listening ear, or a simple box of supplies that says, “I see you, and you aren’t alone.

Was this fun to make? Yes.
Did we rope an innocent Board Member into our reel shenanigans because she was here? Also yes.
But did we make it just for fun? Well, yes … and no! lol

We DESPERATELY need volunteers! Who do you know that could simply give one hour a month?! Tag them or send them this post!

“I could never have kept fostering without them.”

Fostering is beautiful, but it can also be incredibly heavy. When one local foster mama faced a sudden, unexpected divorce mid-journey, the statistics said her foster home should have closed.

But she had a secret weapon: Robin and Leslie.

These two best friends didn't just sign up to volunteer; they signed up to be a lifeline. While the world felt like it was shifting, Robin and Leslie were the "village" that stayed put. They walked alongside this family for three years—through the transitions, the court dates, and the chaos—until those children reached their "forever" through adoption.

Did you know that 50% of foster homes close after just one year? Often, it’s not because the families stop caring—it’s because they run out of support. In KCMO, there are 2,000 kids in care, and our goal is to make sure every single one of them has a village like Robin and Leslie.

You don’t have to do this alone. In fact, it’s better when you don't.

👯‍♀️ Tag the friend you’d want by your side as a volunteer.

8 names. 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours, eight more local teens have been referred to our programs. These aren’t just files on a desk…they are Kansas City kids who are ready for a mentor, and a community that says, “We see you.”

But here is the heavy reality: These 8 names don’t even include our existing waitlist. With these new referrals, we now have 40 families in KCMO waiting for support. That is 88 children currently navigating the foster care system without the extra “village” they deserve.

We are at a tipping point, and we need you.

You don’t have to be a superhero or a foster parent to change these numbers. You just have to be a neighbor who shows up.

Why does my roommate get to go? Imagine being 18 years old, working harder than most adults you know to build a life from scratch. You’re studying for your GED, saving every penny for a car, and dreaming of the day you walk into a professional kitchen as a chef.

Now, imagine watching your roommate get picked up for fun outings by a mentor.

You watch them head out for coffee, for advice, or just for a consistent "bravo" on their wins. You see the confidence your roommate gains, and while you are so happy for them... it’s hard not to wonder when it will be your turn.

Meet "M." 🌟

M is an incredible young woman living in the 64133 area of Jackson County. To know her is to be inspired by her drive. She isn’t just "getting by"—she is chasing a future.

Her Hustle: She’s currently tackling her GED and has her sights set on culinary school.

Her Heart: She finds peace in yoga, exercise, and journaling. She loves the beauty of the world through National Geographic and finds her strength in her Bible.

Her Creativity: Whether she’s coloring or drawing, she sees the world in vibrant detail.

Why we need YOU: M is doing the heavy lifting of adulthood on her own. She needs a mentor who can offer practical guidance on things like getting a driver's license, and—most importantly—the encouragement to keep going when things get tough.

We don't want this teen to watch from the window anymore. We want her to have her own champion to help her transition into her first apartment and toward her culinary dreams. Could you be the one to bridge the gap for M? One hour a week can change the entire trajectory of an 18-year-old’s life. Let’s make sure both of these roommates have the support they deserve.

Comment "MENTOR" or DM us to learn more about M and the matching process!

Most people think volunteering for foster care requires a specialized degree or a massive time commitment. But for one Kansas City foster family, support looks like a well-timed text, a favorite snack, and someone who sees their child as more than just a "case number."

We are moving our storytelling to a new home on Substack so these voices can be heard directly. Read the full tribute to Jane—our "Foster Angel"—and see how small acts of consistency change everything in KCMO.

We are urgently seeking a mentor for a high school senior preparing to graduate and step into adulthood on his own.

He’s interested in construction and skilled trades, enjoys basketball and gaming, and is working hard toward important goals like earning his driver’s license, securing employment, and planning for independent living. But more than anything, he needs a steady adult in his corner.

Graduation is a milestone. It is also a turning point. For many youth in foster care, this season comes without the guidance, encouragement, or consistent support most teens rely on. He deserves someone who will show up, check in, and help him navigate the decisions that will shape his future.

Consistency matters. Presence matters. One trusted relationship can change the trajectory of a young person’s life.

If you or someone you know is willing to invest in a teen during this critical season, please message us!!
