EcoRadio KC is a magazine show created by a team of volunteers made up of loca

l community organizers and activists who work together to create each week's show from live segments, prerecorded stories, and interviews. In addition to our core team, we draw upon the knowledge, experience, and ideas of other members of the community and area organizations. EcoRadio KC explores humanity's interdependence with the rest of the world, showing the connections between the ways we choose to live and the health of the whole community of life. As a result, we cover a wide range of topics, including local and regenerative agriculture, energy conservation and efficiency, justice, ecovillages, alternative medicine, indigenous peoples, clean energy, local food systems, biofuels, the need for multicultural participation in social change, global warming and climate disruption, extinction, green building and chemistry, and consumerism. If you have any questions or comments about the show or would like to get involved with the team that produces it, please send an email message to the team at: [email protected].

EPA Region 7 has issued an emergency permit to store hazardous waste at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in a location not covered by their effective Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) permit.

The plant recently found crystallized lead azide hazardous waste that exhibits the characteristic of reactivity (energetic) and exhibits the characteristic of toxicity for lead. The recrystallization of the stored lead azide has increased the material’s sensitivity to friction and shock.

The plant’s existing RCRA permit authorizes treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste at the facility. However, the storage of this lead azide hazardous waste is in a location not covered for treatment, storage, or disposal under the effective RCRA permit.

This emergency permit is required to protect human health and the environment, establish safe storage procedures, and to authorize the immediate storage of this hazardous waste in-place to safely manage the explosive hazard and mitigate the imminent threat to the surrounding community and the environment.

Celebrate with KHOI. Help us keep the tradition alive with Ames Read Leopold starting at 5pm on Tuesday. We share many Ames Aldoids reading from Aldo Leopold's Sands County Almanac. Then, another tradition continues with the Wetland Project on Wednesday ( ). This is our fourth year and their tenth year. We bring you the nothing but the sounds of the Tekteksen Wetlands off of the coast of British Columbia, all day except the 8am hour for Democracy Now! If you have not experienced this "slow radio" phenomenon, we strongly recommend leaving KHOI on all day for a renewing experience. Then, tune in to the You Name It radio program on Thursday at 2pm for "You Say It's Your Earth Day", a muscial celebration of your favorite planet. You could say that the earth is in heavy rotation this week, as the musical celebration contiues on Friday morning's Adagio at 9am. Spring to life this week and every week with KHOI!
