The annual Greaserama auto show moved from Platte County Fairgrounds to La Benite Park near Independence this year, and Troop 60 returned to serve 1000s of “HOT DOGS! SAUSAGES! ICE COLD BEVERAGES” to the hoardes of festival goers. The festival had its best attendance in awhile, the scouts worked their butts off and everyone seemed to be enjoying the vibe & beautiful new venue along the banks of the Missouri

Troop 60 camped at Hillsdale State Park in Kansas this weekend. We enjoyed a couple of excellent camp meals, a swim in the reservoir, lots of sun and heat, and an overnight thunderstorm. But Saturday night we were treated to a cloudless night full of stars for our visit to Powell Observatory and a peek through the eyepiece of their 30” telescope. Good trip!!

Troop 60 visited the World War 1 Museum on Saturday. A Memorial Day weekend was a good time to reflect on the horrors of that war, particularly the trench fighting on the Western Front that took so many young lives. When the U.S. entered that war in 1917, Missouri sent 128,544 of its young men to fight, 8th most in the country.

In front of the museum a display of flags calls attention to the epidemic of suicides by veterans, reminding us of the toll war takes even after the fighting is over.

Outside the museum the Scouts learned about the varieties of trucks, motorcycles, amphibious vehicles, and jeeps used in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam displayed by local enthusiasts.
