Juneteenth is a time to remember, reflect, and celebrate freedom. It’s also a chance to honor the strength, history, and contributions of Black communities – here in Kansas City and across the country. At the Children’s Services Fund of Jackson County, we know that building a stronger future for kids means investing in equity, connection, and support for families today. This Juneteenth, we’re proud to celebrate hope, opportunity, and community. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to celebrate, you can join the community at the JuneteenthKC celebration in the historic 18th & Vine District June 19th and 20th for a weekend of culture, connection, and celebration, or the 5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration on June 19th in Independence.

💔“If you don't deal with a broken heart, you'll never achieve peace.” While every journey is different, everyone experiences trauma and heart break in some form or another. But not everyone deals with it properly, which can affect our everyday life, even years later. In this special equine therapy session with Structured Support, we all took a step toward healing and peace. The horses–Dan, Tyrone and Waylon–helped reveal emotions, patterns and tendencies in ourselves and we discussed the motives behind them. Only when we have healed are we better equipped to help others, especially our kids. 💖

We were blessed with a beautiful day in a beautiful place surrounded by beautiful people and horses. We are so thankful for the grants that allowed this to happen, and we can’t wait to do it again!🐴

Our trauma sessions will resume in the fall, so stay tuned for details!

It was a day of healing, tears, smiles, laughter, food and bonding. Thank you to Matthew Brandmeyer of Structured Support and his wife Jessica for having us out to their beautiful ranch to help us all move toward healing and growth. And a special shout out to Dan, Tyrone and Waylon the horses for showing us a little more about ourselves.

It's easy to feel alone during the hardest times of life. At TVH, we're here to help walk you through the family court system to reunite with your child as quickly as possible, even if that means giving rides or helping teen parents get their driver's permits. We want to equip you to be the best parent you can be.

🐴We're excited to partner with Structured Support to harness the natural wisdom of horses to foster emotional growth, resilience, and connection. Participants will put themselves in a position to better understand their emotions, recognize unhealthy patterns, and build stronger relationships by interacting with horses. Healthier adults produce better parents and families.🐴

We’re so grateful to the Children’s Services Fund 💙 for their generous technology grant to TVH!
Thanks to their support, each Rapid Reunification home now has tablets 📱 to support learning through educational games 🎮📚—all used in a balanced and intentional way.
These tools help strengthen our “just like home” 🏡 approach, creating opportunities for growth in a safe, nurturing environment.

These teenage parents battled adversity to getting their son, DJ, back. Devon and Jazmyn did visits at TVH in Independence, put in the work, and got their case dropped in less than six months. If you're going through the Jackson County family court system to reunite with your kid(s), you're not alone. We have two community visitation houses available for supervised parent-child bonding time and additional bonding time.
