We've been on the road while the Wyandotte County Museum hosts an exhibit from the Smithsonian, and it's time to play catch up!
In June we visited Young Women on the Move, and our member, executive director Mary Beth Gentry hosted us. We saw the numerous renovations she and her team have been able to complete on their campus at 3148 Parallel in Kansas City, Kansas. YWOM has been developing middle and high school girls into leaders for more than 20 years!

Last week we took our Kiwanis Club of Kansas City West meeting on the road to Memorial Hall in downtown Kansas City, Kansas for a tour to view all the renovations in this gorgeous 100 year old iconic building. Rocki Mays gave us an in depth tour of all the ways she and her dedicated team have returned this grand memorial to its deserved beauty.

Rakmila Shaiza with Stitching Change spoke with our Kiwanis Club of Kansas City West May 28. She shared a bit of her own story and how it impacted her to begin this nonprofit organization, teaching primarily refugee women how to sew and earn income. Fabrics are recycled into beautiful bags and other items. It was a joy to have Rakmi join us to share her work in our community.

Last Thursday our speaker at our club meeting was Eldon Yeakel with the Wyandotte County Historical Museum . He shared the museum's new efforts to teach community members how to safely clean headstones.
