6. For someone experiencing grief, how do you see memorial art serving as a grounding practice or point of connection?

Everyone experiences grief in their own way. It can be a long process. For me, having a piece of memorial art that contains the ashes of both of my parents gives me comfort during those times when I really miss them. Missing them happens less often than it used to, but looking at that piece now makes me smile and always brings up a happy memory of a good time that we shared. Who doesn't love remembering and reliving the good times?

7. How do you see mindfulness or intentional presence, both in creating memorial pieces and in receiving them, support healing when grief feels especially heavy?

As I mentioned earlier, creating memorial art is sacred. Receiving it brings so much comfort. I think when grief feels especially heavy, holding a memorial piece can release some of those heavy emotions and help the grieving member feel just a little bit lighter.

There’s something oddly healing about finding a room full of people who don’t panic when you say words like death, dying, grief, or vigil planning.

Like… oh.
These are my emotionally strange little people. 🖤

Turns out belonging sometimes looks like coffee, conference lanyards, nervous systems held together by snacks, and openly discussing life, mortality and all things in between at round tables.
