Sabrina is 4 years old… and she’s spent over 1,100 days waiting for someone to choose her. 💔

She’s the kind of dog who makes everyone she meets fall in love — goofy, affectionate, and so full of life. Sabrina adores people, is great with kids, and can do well with most male dogs her size who enjoy playtime.

Because of her prey drive, she needs a home without cats or small dogs.

Her adoption fee is fully sponsored — all she needs now is a person willing to give her the chance she’s been waiting so long for.

She could also thrive in a foster home while she waits.

A huge thank you to NorthPoint Development for spending the afternoon volunteering with us at KC PAWS! 🐾

Their team jumped in for two hours to help with some much-needed organizing and dog walking, and it made a big difference for our dogs and staff. Volunteer groups like this help us keep things running smoothly so we can focus on saving lives.

Corporate volunteer days are a great way to give back, connect as a team, and make a direct impact for animals in need.

If your company is interested in scheduling a volunteer day with us, we’d love to have you! Reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator, Daniel, at [email protected] 💙

Adoptable Winter bouncing in this meet and greet Monday to let you know she’s ready to be adopted! Winter is a 1 year old husky mix rescued from a commercial breeder where she never got a chance to learn that humans can be kind. She’s been recuperating in a foster home and getting more comfortable by the day, though we do still have a ways to go. Today she came to play in daycare and is having a BLAST with all her new friends. Winter is still learning how to be a house pet, so she will need a patient home with a confident dog ready to show her the ropes. Learn more about this sweet girl at kcpaws.org

Just 48 hours ago, these three labradoodle pups were dumped in rural Missouri—terrified, shut down, and clinging to each other for safety.

Today? They’re wagging, playing, exploring, and learning that humans can be trusted. 🖤

This is what patience looks like. This is what giving dogs the space to decompress looks like. No forcing affection. No pushing boundaries. Just quiet time, trust-building, and the help of our older, confident dogs showing them the ropes.

It’s amazing what can happen when scared dogs are met with understanding instead of pressure.

These babies are now fully vetted and officially looking for their forever homes! Because of their backgrounds, they would do best in homes with another confident dog to help continue building their confidence.

📍 Adopters must be within reasonable driving distance—we will not put them through long-distance transport after everything they’ve been through. We are located in Kansas City, Missouri.

🌟 Foster Friday: Thelma 🌟

Thelma is currently thriving in foster care, and her foster has nothing but amazing things to say about her. 💕

She’s fully potty trained, walks beautifully on leash, and gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes — making her an easy addition to many homes. Whether it’s a big playful pup or a little sidekick, Thelma fits right in.

Being in foster has allowed Thelma to show us just how wonderful she truly is outside of the shelter environment. She’s settled into home life so well, and now all she needs is a forever family to call her own.

Dogs like Thelma are why fostering matters — it gives them the chance to shine, and helps us learn exactly what makes them so special.

Remember the three 5-month-old labradoodle pups dumped in rural Missouri?

Look at them now. 🖤

When they first arrived, they were terrified—huddled together, unsure if they were safe, and relying on each other for comfort. Every sound, every touch, every new experience felt overwhelming. But day by day, they’re starting to realize the world isn’t so scary.

They’re still skittish, but they’re making strides every single day. We’re seeing little pieces of their personalities peek through—curiosity, playfulness, and those sweet tail wags we’ve been waiting for.

Today was a big day for them—they were all spayed and neutered! Now they’ll have some time to rest, recover, and continue decompressing before making another big transition.

But we are officially accepting applications for them now! Because of their fear and how much stress transport has already caused them, adopters must be within reasonable driving distance. We will not put these babies through long-distance, out-of-state transport.

Each of these pups would thrive in a home with an existing confident dog to help show them the ropes and continue building their confidence.

Watching scared dogs learn to trust is one of the most beautiful parts of rescue. We can’t wait to see who these pups become. 💕

If you’d like to help support their care—from spay/neuter surgery to vaccines, prevention, and daily needs—please consider making a donation. Rescue like this is only possible because of your support. Every dollar helps give dogs like these a second chance. 🐾

Think On It Thursday 🐾
Why Do Some Dogs Wait Years?

It’s one of the hardest parts of rescue to explain.

When we share our long-term dogs and the number of days they’ve been waiting, it’s not for sympathy. It’s because we are still fighting for them.

But often, those posts are met with hurtful comments:
“You must not be advertising them.”
“You must be doing something wrong.”
“How has that dog been there that long?”

The truth? Every shelter has dogs that get passed over.

The difference is… many shelters don’t keep them long enough for you to notice.

Dogs are often overlooked for reasons that have nothing to do with who they are:
• Black dog syndrome — darker colored dogs statistically take longer to be adopted.
• Bully breed stigma — assumptions based on breed labels keep amazing dogs waiting.
• Age discrimination — puppies are chosen first, seniors and adults are left behind.
• Behavior misconceptions — kennel stress can make a dog seem “too much,” when in a home they may be completely different.

At KC PAWS, we are committed to giving dogs the time they need. We don’t euthanize for space, and we don’t give up when the “easy” adopters pass them by.

That means some dogs wait longer.

Not because they are unwanted.
Not because they are unworthy.
And certainly not because we aren’t trying.

It means we believe every dog deserves the chance to find the right home—not just the fastest one.

So the next time you see a dog who’s been waiting 500… 800… 1,000 days, don’t ask what’s wrong with them.

Ask what kind of home they need—and whether you might be it. ❤️

🐶 Spotlight: Sabrina
Sabrina has been waiting 1,123 days for her forever home. Over three years of being overlooked—not because she isn’t worthy, but because the right person hasn’t found her yet. Sabrina is fully vetted, her adoption fee is sponsored, and she absolutely adores people. She would thrive as the only pet in the home where she can soak up all the love she’s been waiting so patiently for.

Could Sabrina be your missing piece?

Foster or Adoption Plea for Chowder 🐾

Chowder has been with us since he was just 5 weeks old… and now he’s 6 months old.
That means he has spent almost his entire puppyhood growing up in rescue.

While we’re so grateful he’s been safe, loved, and cared for, the truth is: no puppy should grow up in a shelter.

Chowder has watched his siblings leave, one by one, while he’s still waiting for someone to choose him.

He’s at such an important age — learning about the world, building confidence, and figuring out what life is all about. A foster or forever home would give him the chance to learn what it means to be part of a family… to nap on a couch, play in a yard, and have someone to call his own.

Chowder is:
🐶 Dog-friendly
💙 Sweet, playful, and affectionate
🏡 Ready to learn all the good puppy things
✨ So deserving of a chance

Even fostering helps! KC PAWS provides all food, supplies, and medical care — you just provide the love and a safe place to land.

Please help us show Chowder that his story doesn’t have to be written inside shelter walls.
