From aviation history to imagining themselves in the pilot’s seat. ✈️

The adventure continued for students from the Pro Deo Youth Center in Lee’s Summit with a visit to Kansas City’s Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport!

Students explored the iconic TWA Museum, experienced incredible aircraft displays, and visited the Brigadier General Charles McGee General Aviation Terminal, named in honor of legendary Tuskegee Airman Brig. Gen. Charles McGee. ❤️

But they didn’t just learn about aviation history. They got a taste of the future, too! Students climbed into aircraft cockpits and put their skills to the test on flight simulators, getting a hands-on glimpse into what it feels like to take the controls. 🛩️

These experiences are about more than airplanes. They’re about exposure, representation, and possibility. When young people can see aviation up close, meet the people behind it, touch the controls, and learn the stories of those who paved the way, a career that once seemed distant can suddenly feel within reach.

At RedTail Academy, we’re helping the next generation see that the sky isn’t the limit. It’s where the journey begins. ❤️✈️

RedTail Academy is incredibly grateful to Terracon Engineering and the Terracon Foundation for their generous $6,000 grant in support of our mission!

Some of our summer camp students and board members had the opportunity to be part of this special check presentation, and moments like this are a reminder that opportunity grows when a community chooses to invest in it.

Support like this helps us continue exposing young people to aviation, creating access to new possibilities, building strong foundations, and giving their dreams a runway. ✈️

Last year, YOU showed up. ❤️✈️

We had an incredible time, but the impact went far beyond one night. Together, we helped give young people the opportunity to dream bigger, reach higher, and see themselves in the sky.

Every young person deserves a foundation strong enough to build a dream on.

At RedTail Academy, aviation is the vehicle, but the mission reaches far beyond the cockpit. We’re creating access, building confidence, developing young leaders, and giving students opportunities to imagine a future they may have never thought possible.

On Saturday, October 3rd, we invite you to join us at the TWA Museum for our Breaking Barriers Gala, an evening celebrating where we’ve come from, the foundation laid before us, and the young people who will carry that legacy forward.
